Metropolitan Hotel NYC

Has anyone stayed at or know anything about the Metropolitan Hotel (formerly Loews) in New York City?

Hi Marlene
I stayed there last year when it was still the Loews. It was undergoing renovations then. The room we had was very small and cramped with three of us in it. It certainly wasn't luxurious and I can't say there was anything special about it. However, I liked the location with subway entrance right on that corner, not too far from Bloomies and the great shopping on Madison Avenue. I also remember they charged a fortune for breakfast (like $21) - I used to go up the road to the Broadway Diner and have a huge breakfast for about $8. The hotel also charged me to receive a fax!!!!!! There are lots and lots of hotels in the area and I guess it depends on how much you want to spend. I am sure you could get a better hotel for the same price.

Have a great trip.

We stayed there last June -- after it was renovated. It was a special price deal. Lovely hotel, great very friendly staff. Put us in our room at 10am! Coffee shop on corner between Hotel & Subway: great coffee, etc. 24 hrs day. No need to eat in hotel. Perfect location for us. Walked to & from Grand Central. Secure luggage holding area. Would like to stay there again next spring if the rates were same or better.

I stayed at the Loews post September 11. Our room was comfortable, by no means luxurious. There were some cracks in the shower, and our view wasn't really nice.

But, the location was great! And, that's what matters. It's close to shopping, the subway, etc.

If you're looking for a comfortable room with a great location I believe that the Loews meets your needs. If you are looking for luxury, then you should look elsewhere.

We stayed there over Thanksgiving weekend. I agree with some of the above comments. Location....great. Rooms...old and dated. However, most people only need rooms to sleep in and if it's at a good price...go for it. Request a room away from the elevators. We couldn't sleep in because of the noise.
