Mendenall Canoe or Float trip - nned help deciding

We're on the Sun Princess in June and are trying to determine if the float trp or canoe trip is the best way to go. The canoes have 12 people in them and I thought that they might get us closer to the glacier. The float trip sounds like fun but I am not sure there is that much glacier time. Anyone done the canoe trip for feedback>
