Memphis BBQ-What to order?

We'll be in Memphis this coming Sun, Mon and Tuesday. I've got 3 BBQ places in mind, but would like to know what is the best BBQ to order in each restaurant. I like ribs and bbq sandwiches, also what extras to order.
Guess what I'm asking is, what do each of these 3 places specialize in...ribs or sandwiches?
Here's my 3 choices:
Corky's
Interstate BBQ
Rendevzous

My DH has been at the Rendevous twice. He says Ribs.

At the Rendevous order ribs. The first time I took the DH there, I just told the waiter to bring us what we were supposed to have! These are dry ribs. My sister does not like their ribs, I love them!

At Corky's, I always get a BBQ sandwich.

Not sure about Interstate BBQ.

Now, my favorite place for a sandwich is TOPS. There's several of them around Memphis.

Honestly, for a BBQ sandwich you can just about go anywhere and be fine.

Rendezvous is known for their dry ribs. They rub a dry rub on them, barbecue them and then you put a vinegar-based sauce on them. A little different, but very good.

I would probably order a pulled pork sandwich at both Corky's and Interstate. You can ask for "inside-out" which means you get some of the crusty outside of the roast.

The sides are up to you!

While the ribs at the Rendevous are decent, there are better places. Corky's is an absolute tourist trap and the Q just isn't like it was years ago. Interstate is good spot. If you want better ribs, go to Leonards, Central BBQ or Germantown Commissary. If you want a truly great BBQ experience, go to Cozy Corner and get the BBQ'd cornish game hen, it's awesome. Brad's in Bartlett has good sandwiches but I always like the sandwiches at Tops which has about 15 locations around the city, they're still very good. Little Pigs BBQ and Neeley's always had great sanwiches although I haven't had a chance to go to them recently.

I was a tourist, but I liked Corky's. I had the feeling that Rendezvous was more of a touristy place, so close to Beale St. and all. At Corky's, I had a sandwich, I tasted the ribs. All were great.

I didn't say Corky's was bad, just that it wasn't as good as it was when the hype began. Probably any tourist who is not a Memphian could go to Corky's and enjoy it. However, there are much better places that are lesser known.

Buongiorno, I understand. I lived in Kansas City, and I never understood the Arthur Bryant love. If you knew where to go, there were a bunch of better bbq places. They just never got they hype that ABs got.

Pulled pork sandwich with lots of sauce and cole slaw. Lots of napkins. Don't forget the sides, bbq places usually have great sides like bacon green beans and fried okra...

Thanks for the suggestions on BBQ...my mouth is alway watering.

Also how are Gus's Fried Chicken and either Dreyer's or Huey's for burgers?
I'm looking forward to a couple days of cheap eats that are good!

buongiorno,

When we were in Memphis I thought we went to a place called Neely's Interstate BBQ. You mention Interstate and Neely's like they're two different places. Is there a difference? I liked their rib tips there. We also liked the dry rub ribs at Rendevous but being from Boston we're no experts.

Huey's is an old favorite of mine from my college days!! It's been a while, but it was always great. Get the California burger -- on wheat bun with avocado and sprouts. YUM. And don't forget to use your straw to shoot your frill pick into the ceiling!

Gus's is a great choice for spicy, unique fried chicken...really good choice...definitely should go........as said above, Huey's is a favorite for hamburgers.....rendezvous is best for the dry ribs, also very good sausage/cheese plates....(side note, i'm a memphian, i also like to go to the touristy places when i travel b/c they're usually a lot of fun -rendezvous is fun for locals and tourists alike)...Interstate is great for ribs and bbq, but most importantly get some bbq spagetti there, which is suprisingly good (Interstate is owned by Jim Neely - Neely's is owned by other family members).....i like the ribs better than the bbq at corky's, but both are good....order an onion loaf at corky's as an appetizer if you like onion rings at all...everybody's right, there are tons of really good bbq places in memphis and everybody has personal favs, lots of win/win choices....i think you got a good list...hope you have fun....(fyi - it's getting hot hot hot, so be ready)

Thanks for all the great replies and suggestions. I think I've got it worked out so that we can hit the ones we want working around the Sunday/Monday closings. Leaving Memphis Tuesday after we do the Rendevzous to drive to Nashville in the evening.

Are Gus's and Huey's withing walking distance of Beale St? We are staying at the Hampton Inn at Peabody Place.
I know we will drive to Interstate, there is a Corky's at Peabody Place, is it a good one, or should we go to the original?
Heat & humidity the worst weather condition for me, but will handle it for my long awaited trip to Graceland.
