Memorable restaurant in Austin, TX??

A special Austin couple I know are getting married soon. They are in their thirties and already own all the household stuff one needs. I would like to give them a gift certificate for a meal at a really nice restaurant. Any suggestions?

We had an exceptional meal at the Driskill, the showplace Austin Hotel.

I had a great dinner at Jeffrey's on 9/11 with a woman I shall always remember.

Depends on how nice (i.e., how much do you want to spend). Most of these restaurants are in the $15 - $25 per entree range. Throw in appetizers and wine and your probably looking at $100 for a couple.

I have heard some good things about Hudson's on the Bend. Everybody but me seems to rave about Jeffrey's. Bellagio has excellent food, although I don't think the atmosphere is special. It's been several years, but my meals at The Driskill have always been good.

Hudson's on the Bend is a decent drive from near downtown. The food is mostly game related and excellent, but maybe 25% more than Jeffrey's or Vespaio - a great IT on S Congress.

Hudsons and Emerald are both far West of town. If they live out that way, then either is a nice gift and not too far to drive. Close in, but still on the Southwest side is Bistro88, a great Fusion restaurant.

Now if you asked me, the best gift cert. I could receive in Austin would be for Rudy's or Salt Lick BBQ, or Chuy's for Mexican, but that's me. Gourmand.

Forgot to mention Fonda San Miguel, a great interior Mexican (not tex-mex) restaurant. Wonderful for dinner and even better for Sun brunch.

Vespaio on S. Congress is my favorite for Italian food. Mid-price range, and very popular and festive.
