We did not have till now flights which do not offer meals. This year, during our trip in USA, on flights Chicago - Las Vegas and Las Vegas - New York , on our flight tickets is written "Food For Purchase".
So, I understand that the meals are not included.

Can you please give me some details:
- is it possible to bring and to eat in the plane my meal, bought in the town or in the airport?
- what about water / soda? I think that , as per safety rules, it is not possible to bring it from outside of airport. But can I buy it from airport after check in and take with me in the plane?
- if it allowed to bring my food, anybody can eat when he wants, or it is a time for lunch?

Yes, you can bring your own food. If you purchase something outside the airport, it will be subject to the restrictions on liquids. You'll also have more choices than those available inside the airport.

If you want to drink water, you can take an empty container and fill it from a water fountain after you pass the security check point. Then, you won't have to pay the airport price. You'll have to purchase soft drinks or juice inside the security area.

Most airlines also still provide free non-alcoholic drinks.

When you decide what food to take with you, choose something that isn't messy or has a strong odor that would annoy your fellow passengers. You can eat it whenever you like during the flight.

Go to the airport websites and you can see what food options there are near your gate. Some of them have decent take away - Au Bon Pain isn't bad - and get your drink after security.

We have long ago given up on airline food and take with us a meal made up of local goodies - either a sandwich or stuff in a small plastic container with plastic ware - but always good eats. Sometimes - if the airline is serving a meal we might take their salad - and maybe dessert. Why shouldn't we enjoy good food on the flight rather than the blech that is served? Drinks have always been provided by the airline but you can purchase drinks after security.

I don't like to eat much on planes unless the flight is really long - it's just kind of a hassle in cramped quarters. So I just bring some snacks to hold me over or buy a snack box on the plane. Non-alcoholic beverages are free on most flights.

You can eat whenever you want on the plane. They will offer you a beverage. We often make quiche a before our trip and bring some leftovers with fruit.

Just an FYI, don't depend on being able to buy food on a flight that indicates "food for purchase." Recently on a flight from Maui to LA they ran out of food and the flight attendant told us they usually do.

On a couple of recent flights over lunch time, I've been thrilled to spot a Wolfgang Puck Cafe near my gate. Their chopped Chinese chicken salad makes a fantastic alternative to those years of mystery meals served by the airlines. I for one, actually welcome the chance to provide my own "edible" food.
