Maui vs Kauai (Feb or June trip)

Jump to last reply

Hi - my husband and I are looking to return to hawaii for a 2 week holiday celebrating my birthday either at the end of February or the beginning of June. We spent our honeymoon there and found it to be the perfect combination for my sun-seeking and his adventure-seeking. That said, we are undecided between the following itineraries, roughly the same price:

6 nights in Maui (likely Hyatt Regency Kanaapali or Marriott Wailea)
4 nights at Four Seasons Lanai at Manele Bay

6 nights at the Grand Hyatt Kauai in Poipu
4 nights at the St. Regis Princeville on north short of Kauai

We have been to both islands before but of these properties have only stayed at the Grand Hyatt (which we loved). My instinctual preference would be the Kauai combination as there seems to be so much to do there in an outdoorsy sense (lots of hikes we didn't get a chance to do last time, more secluded beaches, etc) but I'm concerned about the weather in February. Because we have already been to poipu I'd like to spend at least 3-4 nights north in Princeville, but if its a wash-out and we don't get to do many of the hikes or see much of the coast because of rain, it would be a shame. Husband is a huge golf enthusiast and it seems like both islands offer this, though maybe Maui/Lanai would have more choice? Looking for a combination of activity/dining choices and also relaxation. Last big holiday was an African safari so I don't mind if this isn't as secluded/exotic, looking for good hospitality and some sun coming from London :)
