Maui vs. Kauai

Am I going to be sorry I chose Maui instead of Kauai? I am going with my husband and two boys (12 & 14). Just today several people said Maui was too developed for their tastes and Kauai was so much better, but I've already made my reservations (at the Hyatt in Maui). Will I regret it?

Hi,

It really depends on your family. We also have boys 14 & 12 that we took to maui last xmas. They love to explore, look in tidepools, snorkel etc. They loved black rock but it was very crowded at that time of year. We went exploring with the car mostly every day. So its what you make of it. Next easter we are going to kauai, north shore to try a less touristy area of hawaii. Hope I helped some.

NO, you won't be sorry. My wife and I just returned from our five night stay at the Maui Hyatt and couldn't have been happier. The Hyatt has gorgeous grounds, fantastic pool with a fast waterslide, and is close to Black Rock (good snorkel spot), Whaler's Village and Lahaina. The Hyatt has recently renovated their rooms which have a subtle, elegant Polynesian feel. Most views are wonderful, but the ones overlooking the atrium and beach would be killer. Although we don't have kids ourselves, it seemed the Hyatt would be a good choice for families (plenty when we were there) because of the endless amount of activities available at the Hyatt, nearby and the whole island itself. As a precaution for the boys, make sure their feet and body is well protected if they venture into the ocean in front of the Hyatt. In many spots, there's rocks underwater you can't see from the beach (easy to get scrapes). Your family will have a great time at the Maui Hyatt.
