Iceeu2: I realize the Diamond Head issue. May end up doing it while DH is in the meeting...bosses' wife may go...if not, is it safe to do alone?
..Or, we may do it at around 4PM, I believe mauijon said this is tolerable...?

Malasadas are on the list (somewhere). I believe they are in that Circle Island Tour at Leonard's on Kapahulu. Will Check.
Also, Hula Pie, POG, Plate Lunch,Duke's Lava Flow & salad bar, shave ice...anything I forgot??

...need another cheap t-shirt? Belle.

There's no reason that you shouldn't be ok alone on the hike up Diamond Head..but, the sight is so splendid it's something your DH will want to be in on...So wait for him and hike it later in the day...just take your time doing it (no time trials) and also take water.

It's a paved walkway, so you can wear your tennis shoes or keen newport's or h2's.

This is so much fun helping someone else plan when their excitement is so obvious.

Belle, You're not doing anything wrong. Fodors indexing system is a bit behind right now (from what I read on other posts).

That's one loooooong day, your first day on Maui. Out of bed at 2:30a.m. up the volcano (this is high altitude and takes a bit out of you!) and all the way thru til the end of the Old Lahaina Luau late in the evening (great show BTW)???? Yikes.

Oh well, I know you've been working real hard on planning this itininerary so hope you have the greatest time ever!! aloha...

suze: Thanks for the explaination and the ttt!

Yes, I'm concerned about the long day into evening...have asked a couple times, but received no reply. Do you think there will be time for a nap before the luau?

There are a few other??'s interspersed throughout the itinerary...got any answers?

Also, this isn't written in stone, reservations might still be able to be changed if I can come up with a better flowing plan! Thanks again, Belle

Thurs:

Pa`ia Fishmarket is very casual--order at the counter, grab a seat at a communal long table and wait for them to call your name. I go in there straight off the beach all the time.

Sunrise is at 6ish. You'll probably have to wait for the Fishmarket to open at 11:30. I'd think about grabbing something for breakfast. Maybe this is good time for malasadas or creme puffs from Komodo Bakery in Makawao. Plenty time to grab a nap in the afternoon, unless you get absorbed and end up spending the entire day upcountry.

Fri:
Torches are lit just before sunset, lele kawa diver thingy as the sun disappears on the horizon.

Sat: Kimo's would be more casual--burgers kind of place. Food is so much better at Pacific`O or I`o.

Sun you have dinner again at the Fishmarket. While I could eat there everyday, perhaps you might want to check out another place. Fishmarket is casual, fires and sandwich kind of place. If you want to end up back in Pa`ia, Charley's is fun and Milagros is great.

Wed--I would forget about driving all the way back to Ka`anapali to pick up a picnic lunch--that would add 2 hours to your drive that day. Cafe Mambo does not open until 9 am. You might want an earlier start than that. Anthony's is open at 5:30, they do sandwiches. Maui Grown Market in Ha`iku, on Hana Hwy is open at 6:30. They do a nice picnic lunch too. If you wait till 9 to hit Pa`ia you'll be in the thick of commuter and tourist traffic in Pa`ia and along Hana Highway. Humu's is a nice setting, but their food and service is spotty and inconsistent. I like to go there for drinks, but for dinner, for the price you can do better, in my opinion. And you might not be back until dark that day. I'd leave that dinner kind of open. There are lots of more casual places to eat in Kihei. Why not wing it that night? After Hana you might be wiped and just want to grab a burger or something. Or, you might feel like a nicer dinner. You can always cancel a reservation.

here today: Yes, I have realized the duplication of Pai'i Fishmarket, had come to the same conclusion...Sun. dinner is left open.

I made reservations for Plantation House on Fri....now here's the dilema...they would only put us down for the window table(for sunset viewing) at 6:00PM. Therefore, I'm afraid we'll miss the Black Rock Diver ceremony if we do the Plantation House...is this correct? Which would you choose if you couldn't do both??

Also had noticed the back track up to Kaanapali for sandwiches...that's not going to happen... changed it to Maui Grown Market.

Dinner after the Hana drive will have to be flexible...maybe we can make the 5:30PM Five Palms Special, since it's right there at Mana Kai. OR maybe visit one of your favs...Mulligan's?

Mahalo! Belle.
