Maui Prince Hotel

We are staying in the Maui Prince Hotel in July and have reserved an ocean view room. I checked out the layout of the hotel and since it is a "V" shape, there are sections of building that don't really get much of a view even though they are ocean view.

Does anyone have recommendations for which room we should specifically stay in - floor, which side of the building? Is it worth upgrading to prime ocean view??

Request an upper floor room. There is a berm in front of the hotel that blocks the lower level from the beach. Stayed there twice but don't remember the room numbers, view of the ocean was nice from both rooms but better higher up..

Upper floor room - got it!

By the way - what did you think of the hotel rooms? The service? Amenities? Location?

Rooms were nice, not over the top but nicely decorated, average bathroom. The balcony is lovely, you will have apanoramic view since there is nothing else around there.

Location is rather secluded but we liked that. You really must have a car. The beach in front or the Prince is really pretty, you can enjoy the beach without the sand if you want to layout on the berm. The grounds had nice features like hammocks and pretty garden areas. The pool area was fine, there were two hot tubs, again notthing fancy but very nice. We did think it was odd that they shut down the pool early (around 5 p.m. I think) just when we wanted to order a drink and relax.

Service was pretty good. The standard lei greeting upon arrival. The first time we stayed there I thought it was better than the second time. Nothing really wrong, just not as friendly or helpful the second time (but of course that differs with every person you run into). Overall I've always found service in Hawaii to be wonderful since the Hawaiian people are so great, just remember it's a laid back atmosphere and go with the flow. Of course, be sure to tell them it's your honeymoon, they usually offer some sort of upgrade, champagne, etc!

The Prince hotel group is Japanese and they have a very good Japanese restaurant at this resort. Becasue of the way the resort is built the restaurants are not open air. There is an open air patio restaurant on the bottom level but because of the berm you cannot see the ocean. They did have a nice Japanese garden inside the lower courtyard.

We also enjoyed early morning coffee on the lanai next to the lobby. For the best dining view however you might want to take advantage of room service and eat on your lanaii.

The Prince golf courses are great, Beautiful views while you play. We actually preferred lunching or having sunset drinks at the golf course clubhouse over any of the places in the hotel.

You will be near other very nice resorts so it is fun to resort-hop at that end of the island.

There are two nice beaches near the end of the road (I think there were called Big Beach and Little Beach) You have to hike a little bit to get from one to the other. The father beach is known for nude sunbathing and swimming.

Aloha, hope you have a great trip! We're off to Kauai next spring, wish it were this spring!

I would pay the extra for prime ocean view. We've stayed in both oceanview and prime oceanview and it was worth it. The rooms are nice and clean, although a little dated. The beach fronting the hotel is excellent, with great snorkeling.
