Maui or Maui and Kauai

My husband and I went to Maui last year for the first time for 9 days. (and loved it) We are planning on another trip this April for 14 days and I want to check out Kauai. He says he would be perfectly happy on Maui the whole time. He's afraid we'll be sorry we stayed on Kauai 7 days. I say "I don't think so". You Fodorites that have visited both islands, what do you think?

If you loved Maui, you're sure to love Kauai - especially the North Shore (it looks like the Hana area)- tell him about all the movies that have been filmed there and go on the movie tour - we took our helicopter trip w/ the interisland copters and it was spectacular (We visited 4 islands this past summer including Big Island, Maui, Kauai, and Oahu) - Maui and Kauai were my favorites.

We just came back in September and did 16 days, split between Maui and Kauai. We loved both. I would definitely recommend doing the two islands-they are both beautiful in their own way.

14 days should be plenty of time to do both islands. If he thinks you will be sorry for 7 days on Kauai because he will be bored, then cut it to 5 or 6 and then move on to Maui. However, I think 7 days apiece would be great.

Split the time, especially since you've been to Maui before. Kauai is gorgeous!

You are so lucky! I am jealous. Kauai is a nice change from Maui. I loved it. We were there for two weeks and I could have stayed another two no problem. Do both, but I personally like to spend my entire stay on one island and really RELAX. Our next trip will be to Kauai for two weeks again and then Maui after that.

We spent our honeymoon split between Maui and Kauai and loved both. I agree with other posters, since you've been to Maui, definitely check out Kauai. It's much quieter and less built up and is gorgeous and there's plenty to do. We stayed at the Hyatt in Poipu and loved it. Napali coast boat tour was wonderful.

One major shortcoming of Kauai is that there is very little nightlife. Keep this in mind if after dark fun is important to you.

WuWuWu,

Tell DH "Trust me darling"!

Honestly, you've experience Maui once, and probably have done many things there that you won't need to do again,
SOOOOOO,why not jump over to Kauai?

I really would suggest a full week on each with Maui first. It'll help build the excitement for seeing a new island.

As I recall you were looking into booking a Pu'u Po'a condo... great choice for location & views... you (or your DH) won't regret it. My guess is that he'll end up w/ Hanalei "fever"!

Happy planning... muchos alohas!!
