Maui on $100 a night?

We are planning on being in Maui for a week in late June/early July. Any advice on where to stay that is decent for around $100 a night? We don't need fancy, but need clean and decent. What are the must-sees and dos in Maui? It's our first trip to Hawaii, and we are active, outdoors people.

You have chosen an unfortunately busy time in Maui. That is schoolvacation time, so mainland families are visiting. Your options are some cheap condos- www.vrbo.com and some hostels. I have heard of a new hostel in Lahaina. I would research that on Lonely Planet website: www.lonelyplanet.com . The hostel in Wailuku, Banana Bungalow has had some problems in the last year. You will need a rental car to really enjoy the place. Factor that into your budget. www.kayak.com had the best rental rates. I hope you find something you like. Maui is my favorite island. The beaches are great.

I liked Haleakala sunrise, Road to Hana & beyond to Seven Pools, Iao Valley & strolling Lahaina.

Budget ideas all islands:

Buy a copy of 'Maui Revealed'. It has lots of info, lodging reviews, restaurant reviews, maps, etc.

This link is mostly for Oahu, but many of the websites are good for all islands:

You might be able to get a room at Maui Seaside in that price range. It is clean and decent with a nice pool and a coffee shop.

It is not on a beach, and can be a bit noisy if there are sports teams staying there (they tend to congregate on the grassy areas for BBQ and "talk story" time.

Good luck!

Check out vrbo.com like others have said. The Kihei area tends to be less expensive than other areas since there are so many condos there. The beaches are great too, you can snorkel off the shore at most of them.

Check out packages. I bought airfare from LAX to OGG and 5 nights at the beachfront Mana Kai on Keawakapu Beach for my daughter and SIL from Pleasant Holidays for only $1000. That included air for two. You just have to keep checking, every day, until a good deal shows up.

Also, there are plenty of nice budet condos here on Maui that you can get for your price range. For example, April - December is considered value season at the Kihei Akahi in Kihei and you can get a studio for $107 a night if you book 7 nights. It is an older, quiet and nice complex across from a great swimming beach.

This is just one I pulled up randomly. I am sure you can find many others. Happy hunting!
