Maui Kai or Sugar Beach???

Hello!!!
My Husband and I and our 1 year old son are going to Maui from Dec 4,2004- to dec 15th. We went there in 2000 and stayed at the Aston Mahana and loved it however they have renovations going on and their pool is closed and are also a bit more money then we want to spend.
So I have found the Maui Kai and Sugar beach resort. I have read some review on the net of these 2 places and they both sound nice.
Our requirements:
1. 1 bed condo with kitchen
2. Oceanfront
3. Decent price (under $2000 11
nights)

Does anyone have any recommendations for one or the other or any other similar places on the island? Thank you.

Somebody else asked this exact question about a week ago. If you put maui kai into the search box, that post and its responses will come up on the left side of the screen.

I don't know anything about the Sugar Beach resort but we have stayed at the Maui Kai twice in the past two years. The Maui Kai is a great place for the price. The living area in each condo is a nice size. The bedroom is functional but nothing elaborate. The views from the living room or lanai are magnificent. Some units have extended the living room all the way to the edge of the building and therefore have no lanai. In these units, the windows open up like half-sized sliding glass doors and there is a rod-iron railing to prevent you from failing out. The lanai in the other units is the traditional patio with sliding glass doors into the living room. We were on the sixth floor and the height was a concern with a five year old daughter. We were very cautious when the windows were open, even if the screens were closed. We love the Maui Kai. Its a small bldg and the pool area is enjoyable. There never was a crowd; perhaps two or three families or couples at a time. I would stay there again. If you have any other questions, just ask.

Be careful about Sugar Beach in north Kihei, south Maui. While the stretch of sand is pretty, you may have to endure midges, strong winds, seaweed on the beach, rough waters and unfriendly odors. In the west you may face rougher waters in December. Honokowai, Maui Kai, is a pretty area, though the beaches in the area can be rocky. Enjoy your trip.

For that price (less actually) you could rent a condo at Grand Champions Villas at Wailea...much newer than either of the properties mentioned.

If prices were equal, I would prefer an oceanfront condo like the Maui Kai.
