Napili does not have rocky beaches. Napili Bay is one of the more beautiful beaches of Maui. All hotels along Napili Bay are low rise (that's what I like). There are a few condos. Napili is not crowded like Kaanapali.
If you like people watching, then Kaanapali has more action. I'd recommend Napili area, however, in the winter it can be more rainy than Kaanapali.

Hi Penny,
My wife and I stayed in a studio at the Villas in 1999 and I would highly recommend it. It was quiet, the beach is great and within walking distance to black rock. The units at the very back of the property are to be avoided - might have highway noise. Unless you spring for a unit that are "ocean front" , up by the pools, I would just book a garden view, as the landscaping is pleasant and all units are rather far off the beach anyway. In June, we were glad to have the A/C, which not all properties have. One point, I'm not sure this is still an Aston property as I don't see that being used with the name anymore. Don't know if that matters.

Hi,
I have not stayed at Napili Bay Resort, but I stayed at the Napili Sunset in May 2001. It is about a 15 minute drive from Kannapali. We liked the Napili area -- it was more residential, laid back. Napili bay was beautiful! The snorkeling in Napili Bay was okay, not great. It did not rain while we were there. Kapalua Bay is almost right next door, and it is also beautiful. We were disappointed in that it was not as lush and green as we thought it would be.

We just returned from our stay at Napili Bay and for us it was about 5-7 minutes to Kaanapali and 15 minutes to Lahaina. Napili Bay is sandy, not rocky. If you want rocks, go north to Honolua Bay to snorkel. Now that's a rocky beach (and I've got the cuts on my feet to prove it)We split our time between The Napili Bay condos (alohacondos.com) and Wailea Renaissance resort which has quite lush and green and beautiful grounds.
