I have used the Maui Revealed guide book once in the past. I found it helpful, though there were quite a few suggestions that were complete waste of time. One landowner who was nicely helping us with our directions, laughed and said Oh no , you're using the blue book aren't you. I am going to the Big Island in a few weeks and have the latest Revealed guide book for that island. Does anyone who has used it have warnings for guide book suggestions that are not as they are described, in other words Don't bother.

We used it last month on the Big Island. We always looked up the place or attraction online to cross check since guidebooks go out of date quickly. We did find the book very useful.
When we were on Maui though a few years ago, there seemed to be real animosity towards the "revealed" guidebook there especially over in Hana.
I used them too for each island but have supplemented with my own stuff I researched online, as well as reading forums like these, and local blogs. I found them useful, but yes, we didn't rely solely on what they thought were the best attractions or food. We went to one place on Kauai for Thai food that they have an "ONO" rating to, and it was more like "Oh, No!"
I did have other guides with me, such as the snorkel books, and some from Fodor's too. You have to start somewhere and I think the Blue books are very easy to read which is nice.
