Maui anniversary trip January 19...tips for romance/good food/good memories?
Wow, I'm panicking, we're leaving in 7 days! Any advice for wonderful experiences is welcome. My mind is boggled with too much research that I finished weeks ago.
We're staying 5 nights at the Maui Prince on Maluaka Beach (south of Wailea). Then 2 nights at the Hotel Hana Maui.
One day my husband wants to drive up to Haleakala, and we'll stop at little towns on the way up. We're not going up for sunrise. He's a biologist and wants to see one of those silverswords...
We want to explore the beaches south of us...any particular favorites you can recommend?
I want to spend a day driving our convertible up the coast, past Wailea, Kaanapali, Kapalua...Suggestions for most beautiful or romantic or memorable stops?
We'll have plenty of time to do the road to hana. And since we have 2 nights there we'll see the sights past Hana in the morning before they get crowded.
Romantic restaurants? Best food, casual or fancy? Best places to see sunset? Best shopping places where husbands won't get bored?! Best beaches?
I think I should have a list of "DON'T MISS THESE" But instead I seem to have a list of everything that exists in Maui...
Thank you for any suggestions!

Hi there,
Sorry, I can't give you any firsthand expert advice since the last time I was in Maui, I was 3. : )
But in my planning for my Feb. 11 trip, I came across a great thread for you...do a search for "top 10 Maui," which includes many posts of people's favorite things to do in Maui.
Hope that helps and have a great trip!

Here is a "top ten" thread with my list and many others: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...1&tid=34440424
I have a very detailed trip report with some awesome (and free) activities here: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...1&tid=34436140 It includes several south Maui beaches, lots of snorkeling, Olivine Pools, restaurants, and our two nights in Hana, hiking and waterfalling. We watched the sunset twice from the black sand beach that's one cove north of Big Beach, where we watched the turtles float on the surf right at the shore!
Where are you staying in Hana?
Let me know if you have any questions!

How wonderful life is for you!!! While in Hana I would not miss a visit to Venus pool, and redsands beach, which may be clothing optional, but the location is amazing......could be slippery so wear proper footing. I think the neighbors at Blue Pool have been trampled on since it is no longer a hidden gem. Since you are staying in Hana perhaps a sunrise check their and a sunset check at Venus. While I took a powered hangliding lesson, my husband had the most amazing eggs benedict, done with fish....I got the second english muffin of heaven leftovers after my flight. We also adore the wasabi frenchfries at Hotel Hana. On your way, you might consider Charlies in Paia for b'fast. As far as south of you.....you are really at the end of the road, and within an hour or two you will decide which beach areas you love most...big little hidden!!! It's all magical. If you are heading to Hana after bfast, stop at Hailimaile General Store for a Sashimi Nepolean to get you on your way! Ah Hana.....Makena........you have chosen a guarenteed fabulous trip! 2 magical areas!

Hi Mellisa5
If your spouse is a biologist then make sure you guys stop at Homser Grove when you go up Haleakala. Also stop at the Keanae Arboretum on the way to Hana. Both are a delight.
Have Fun
