Maui - Hotel of Choice?

We're planning a trip to Maui in December. Any recommendations for good accomodation? I've read conflicting messages about the Westin Maui. Has anyone stayed at the Ritz? Any other suggestions would be great!

My husband & I spent a week in Maui last June for our honeymoon. We stayed at the Sheraton Maui on Kaanapali beach. It had just opened from a massive renovation - they knocked the hotel down to the slab & rebuilt. It's absolutely beautiful, we thought it was the best on Maui. The location is great too, it's right in front of Black Rock, a great snorkeling spot. Our favorite restaurants were the Hula Grill (great restaurant right on the beach), Roy's Kahana (not on the beach, but excellent food), Lahaina has some great restaurants as well.

We're going back to Maui this July. You'll have a great trip, if you need any more info, feel free to e-mail us!

we are a family of 4 who spent a week xmas 97 at hyatt regency maui. i would absolutely recommend itand we visited alot of hotels while there. definitely superior to the westin. sheraton was our 2nd choice, i thought the setting of the hyatt was the prettier than the sheraton. the view from our room at the hyatt was breathtaking, restaurants were superb and the pool is incredible.

Maui this Dec. any thoughts out there on a special
way to mark the occasion?Special sailing trip?
Restaurant? Has anyone had Sunday brunch at the
Westin? Thanks, Tatjana

We love the Royal Lahaina because it is on the best beach in west Maui....on the "other" side of black rock. If you want a GREAT beach at a nice comfortable hotel that is best described as casual, with nice to very nice rooms and a nice pool area -- and you don't mind driving to most places, try the Royal Lahaina. As for us, we are looking at someplace more in the hubub of things because we will have a nine-month old with us...and want to be able to walk most places. We are looking at theSheraton, Westin, Hyatt, Marriott.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS OF WHERE TO GO WHERE TO EAT AND WHAT TO SEE WHILE ON MAUI?

My husband and I were in Maui for our honeymoon-this
summer will be our fifth anniversay and we will stay
at the Grand Wailea. We loved it for our honeymoon
and are looking forward to our return visit. It's
very luxurious. I highly recommend it, although it
is on the pricey side. It's beautifully landscaped
and has many fine restuarants.

We have been to Maui 6 times and headed back again next winter. We stay at the Marriott each time. Good value. The rooms are very large and all have a good view. They were all remodeled a couple of years ago and they are nice.
Restaurants- Roy's and Nicolina's in Kahana.
Mama's Fish House, Hailemaile Gen'l Store,Joe's Grill,Plantation Club House at Kapalua(Best Sunset)

Another Thought. You want to get the best value for accomadations, you're going to Hawaii to see the islands and will spend little time in room. I've always gotten good deals at Marriott.

I don't think you can top the Grand Wailea. It is by far the best hotel I have ever stayed at.
