Maui - Condo or Hotel

Will be in Maui for 1st week of August and can't decide if we should stay in hotel or condo. My husband and I are in our late 30's, like to do outdoor activities, not big pool people (can't stand lying around). I'm a teacher and need to get away from kids! Doesn't have to be fancy, but clean rooms, lovely grounds, preferably on beach, ideally with kitchenette. I think I answered my own question - condo! Anyone have recommendations? Sugar Beach? Maui Kamaole? Plantation Inn? Maui Coast? (I tried Napili Sunset but no avail.) Would truly appreciate your expert advice!

We just returned from honeymoon at Napili Bay (www.alohacondos.com) in Maui, right next to Napili Sunset and they're very comparable. Clean room, ours looked right out to ocean. We visited many other beaches and I liked Napili the best - not too crowded, good waves and snorkeling. I didn't stay more than 2 hours on the beach. We put 700 miles on the car going to Hana, down to Makena beach and all around. Such a wonderful place. Good luck!

Check out Grand Champions Villas in Wailea. It's a small complex...pools are never crowded... try www.mauihawaiicondo.com or www.kiheirose.com

We were in Maui in May and stayed in a condo -- Napili Sunset. It was the first time we stayed in a condo, rather than a hotel or B&B, and I liked the condo much better. Our condo at Napili Sunset was roomy, and the kitchen was really a "complete" kitchen. It was comfortable and clean.

Try The Mahana - we've stayed there 3 times and everytime was great. You do need to be aware that with condos the funishings, etc. can differ from unit to unit tho because they are individually owned. We always ask for a recently updated/remodeled unit and so far have been lucky. The Mahana pool is small as you say you are not going to be laying around it. The condos have full kitchens, a/c, washer & dryer, maid service, etc. Very convenient location, about 7 miles north of Lahaina. All the units are ocean front - in other words you do not have to wonder what you are going to look out on - it's all Pacific ocean from all windows/lanai!
