Marshall Field's Christmas Window Display in Chicago

I am visiting Chicago next week and want to see the downtown Marshall Field's animated window display... Does the Michigan Ave. store also have a display for the holidays?

Although MF Michigan Ave has beautiful Christmas decorations, the famed Marshall Field's Christmas display is at the State Street location. The Michigan Ave. store doesn't come close to this.

If you are going to go to the Marshall Field's on State Street- you may also want to visit the Walnut Room. Food is not the best in Chicago (INHO) but the atmosphere is like Chicago used to be 50 years ago. The tree there, plus all the indoor decorations are worth the trip over to State St. alone.

Every year there is usually a totally different motif. Walking through the ground floor makes the hair raise up on my arms, because I have so many memories of this store. I can remember playing on the wooden floor in the toy section while my mom shopped and the clerk read me stories. (Sure was a different world than today.) It was just about 50 years ago. My dad used to paint the names on the toy wagons as a second or third job and we always went to the employees party. Santa Claus was always in his Cozy Cloud Cottage and Mrs. Klaus, elves and tons of other characters came to talk to us little kids, while the entire upper floors were filled with tables filled with cookies and punches. Michigan Ave. may be the snotty store mile, but in my Chicago- State St. was were it was at and where the REAL Santa Claus still lives.

Arabella, thank you too for receiving the share. On my drive home today, I remembered Uncle Mistletoe in his bright green top hat. There were gated walkways while you waited that had huge candy canes as posts. My little brother was so scared of getting to Santa in his den, but Uncle Mistletoe always met us first and then my brother would smile. He'd never talk to Santa because he was so in awe, but he would talk to Uncle Mistletoe.
