Married in Vegas -- quick tasteful simple

I'll go ahead and add to the countless posts about getting married in Vegas...

Planning to get married the Friday after Thanksgiving in Vegas. Been married before -- Never been to Vegas before -- There won't really be a "wedding" as it will just be the two of us.

We were thinking something on the strip, neat and simple as there will be no guests and hopefully where we could have a few pictures taken (even if it was with our camera). I've looked at a few of the chapel and hotel package deals; however, most seem to anticipate that there will be some number of guests, a cake, etc and seem to be overkill for our plans.

We will be in town Thanksgiving and can look around and probably find something that will work -- Any suggestions?

Thanks?

I attended a wedding at the Flamingo Hilton with the bride, groom, and only 6 guests. The ceremony was right by a waterfall on the grounds of the hotel, and was very nice. There was no cake or reception of any kind. I was elected to be the photographer just moments before the ceremony began, using the bride's camera. If there will be no guests, I bet they can recruit a photographer for you. Good luck!!

Where are you staying? I would contact the hotel as they will have many suggestions for you.

We recently were in a wedding at the Venetian. The bride and groom got married in a gondola. Sounds cheesy but it wasn't, it was actually really nice! And the staff at the Venetian was great!

Congrats!

Here is what to do: Call up Brittney Spears and ask for input from her short lived marriage.

OR

You could always go the Little White Chappel route which is a wedding place not affiliated with a Hotel. There are a number of these type of places on the strip North of the Venetian area.

I'd recommend doing an independent chapel simply because they are less expensive than the hotel chapels, and they don't try and sucker you in for the cake, flowers, etc.

My sister got married at the Candlelight Chapel, which is across from Circus Circus. It was actually pretty tasteful with "traditional" decor and a nice minister. This chapel is now seen in one of those "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" commercials, and we always laugh when we see the commercial!

Sorry, but "Vegas" and "tasteful" in the same message header? Sounds like one of those "oxymoronic" posts discussed in another thread!

jwsmith, I would immediately call the hotel concierge now and ask for his/her advice.

That is a busy busy week in Las Vegas and many people probably have your very same idea. I'll go as far as to suggest you make reservations at some little chapel or whatever the conciege tells you.

It may end up being a little more difficult than you think.

Won't City Hall be closed? Can you get your marriage license during that time? I'd check that out also.

I love these people who like to imply that anyone who enjoys Las Vegas is some sort of trailer park trash as they go out and buy lottery tickets, smoke Marlboros, watch wrestling, and then go to church (when the "little wife" drags them there) and bemoan how the country is going to the dogs.

We got married in Vegas last year. Went to the marriage license place, got the license, walked two blocks to the JP or whatever they call her and it was done. Spent the money we would have used on a chapel on dinner at the Eiffel Tower. We were just as married and had a great "reception dinner". I highly recommend it.

One of my dearest friends had a quick, tasteful and simple wedding at the MGM Grand on Valentine's Day, as part of a "wedding package" booked through a travel agent. By the time the couple flew home 2 days later, they weren't speaking, and my friend's new husband had asked for the ring back.

I once looked into having a vow renewal at the wedding chapel in the Paris hotel. They had several packages to choose from, including weddings for just the bride and groom. Their chapel was also very nice. If I remember correctly, they actually had two to choose from.

Donna,

How does your story help the OP? I think it a bit out of place don't you?

My nephew was married at the Flamingo in their chapel. It was very nice and I can highly recommend it. We had dinner at Mon Ami Gabi in the Paris hotel after the ceremony and it was lovely.

Good luck!

Gotta love those backwards posts made by those that don't really know a thing about Las Vegas.

Hello JW, have you considered getting married "off the strip"? I live in LV and hubby and I eloped and had a lovely ceremony at Red Rock Canyon, about 25 mins from the strip. With some luck weather should be in the mid 60's. There are plenty of Chapels that will travel to your location of choice. Then there's always Mount Charleston where you can have a romantic ceremony in the mountains. Any ?'s feel free to email, and best of luck.

Thanks so far for the suggestions. I think we are going to check with our Hotel (Luxor) for recommendations and probably call ahead to a chapel or hotel (The chapels appear considerably less expensive and possibly a little more fun).

As I understand it, the County Clerk's office is open extended hours and open 24hrs on all Nevada holidays -- so getting the license shouldn't be an issue.

As for "Vegas and tasteful"... I have no misconceptions about the atmosphere in Vegas and I am fairly certain that three days of the sins of Vegas will not polute our relationship -- I was just looking for some suggestions before jumping into a reservation somewhere.

Thanks again...

On CSI - Las Vegas tonight, there was a wedding at the Little White Chapel

Does it have to be a chapel, if there is no one else but you and your groom? Or do you want to do the gown and flowers thing?
What about a judge or justice of the peace, then you would do it in their chambers which might be a touch less expensive and much less cheesy.
Just a thought ~
Whatever you do, though, congratulations

I think I've heard that you need one witness, so it won't be just the two of you. But there are folks in Vegas who hang out near the chapels waiting to be "hired" as a witness I guess. And you can get a ring out of a vending machine!

When we went to the JP, Joe the security guard was our witness. Tried to give him a twenty, but he refused.
