Maroon Bells... what are the hiking trails like?

Jump to last reply

We'd like to take a walk to the crater lake... the only problem is that we will not have hiking/tennis shoes.
We cannot cram anything else in our little bags and we do not plan to buy any.
Can this trail be hiked in athletic sandals?
I suppose what I am asking is:
1. Is the trail little pebbles, sand, packed earth or paved?
2. Is there rough terrain?
3. Is there any climbing?
Thanks so much!
