March in New Hampshire
New Hampshire in early March
Please suggest a car hire company, pleasant ski area roughly 4 hours from Boston, and any other suggestions as to what is a must see. Budget is not important. Interests are the outdoors, snow and great scenery.
Many thanks

Most of the the major car rental agencies are located at Logan Airport in Boston: National, Budget, Avis, Hertz, etc.
If your heart is set on going to New Hampshire, I would suggest staying in the Jackson area. From there, you have access to many ski areas: Black Mountain, Cranmore, Attitash, Wildcat, Shawnee Peak, and Sunday River are all close by (some closer than others!). You could also go to Stowe, Vermont-it's about a 3 1/2 hour drive from Boston and is home to Stowe Mountain Resort Ski Area. For info on Stowe, you can check out www.stowe.com or www.go stowe.com.
For info on the Jackson area, check out www.mountwashingtonvalley.com
Hope this helps!

I agree Jackson NH would be an excellent place to stay Try the following website for information on lodging, activities www.jacksonnh.com
There is excellent skiing close by, jackson and the surrounding scenery is beautiful and if you need a shopping/Bargain fix the outlets at North Conway NH are only a car ride away.
Also try www.jacksonxc.com www.skinh.com
www.skiwildcat.com
Another possibility is to head further north, there is a resort called the Balsams which has a first class reputation, Ideal if your interests are the outdoors. I think they have a website but not sure of the address. try www.northcountrychamber.org for information.
Also if you contact www.visitnh.gov you can ask them to send you a guidebook on NH.
Have a great trip.

If you aren't locked into Logan Airport, I suggest you fly into Manchester, NH. It's a great little airport that until recently was a well-kept secret. It has most of the major car rental companies and I believe Southwest, Delta, US Air, and United fly into it.

Hi Fran,
Another great area to consider is the Franconia Notch area of NH - you can ski Loon and Cannon Mts. and the views of the Notch, the Old Man in the Mountain and the whole area is spectacular. There are a number of inns and B&B in the area.
Also Waterville Valley is a really pretty area a little south of the Notch (about 10 miles) with a very pretty village with sleigh rides, ice skating, downhill and cross country skiing and lots of places to stay. Take a look at www.waterville.com.
The Mt. Washington Hotel and Bretton Woods ski area are another place to consider. The hotel is now open in the winter and is a very lovely old luxurious hotel. It's one of those old huge hotels' that wealthy Bostonians went to at the turn of the century and spent the whole summer at. They just opened for the winter last year and I hear it's quite nice with lots of atmosphere. A friend spent a few days of her honeymoon there and just loved it.
I'd also suggest arriving into Manchester NH airport - driving out of Boston is not the easiest and Manchester is so much better.
