I don't think any are open to the public. Old Westbury Gardens gardens can be toured, but not the house to my knowledge. http://www.oldwestburygardens.org/cal_05.htm

Old Westbury Gardens features the Phipps estate, Westbury House, which is indeed open for tours. (My Mom has been a docent giving tours of the house for 15 years.)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We went to NY this weekend, but got tied up with family events and didn't have much time for sightseeing, but we plan on using the suggestions this summer.
