Mama to Manhattan: The Details, Day One, WWYD?

Jump to last reply

We arrive at LGA on a Wednesday at 2:16.

Q: I looked at the Carmel Car website and almost booked but they say their sedans will fit 4 people but only 3 suitcases. If our 4th bag doesn't fit there's a $10 charge -which is ok- but the bag has to go in the backseat with 3 other people. Not so ok. Would you pop for the extra and rent the mini-van or take your chances on the sedan?

After we check into our hotel we'll send someone down the block to purchase our MetroCards.

Q: When I tally up our proposed activities it looks like we will spend a minimum of $80 in bus and subway fares for the week. Would you by one pay as you go card and fill it with $80, then top it later if needed or would you buy four 7 day passes for the convenience of not having to track the balance and top?

Once we settle in and get our metrocard(s) we'll take our first bus ride to Grand Central then get on the Times Square shuttle. After that we'll walk to John's Pizzeria for dinner. Following that is the HOHO night tour.

Q: We can save $5 each if we pay in advance for the tour but I'm not sure we would still want to do it if the weather is bad. So, would you pay less and book in advance or purchase tickets that night? If we purchase the night of the tour, do we need to go to the Gray Line office on 8th Ave or are they available where you board in Times Square?
