Making reservation thru Venere as opposed to contacting hotel directly

There is a 4 percent discount booking thru Venere, using a discount code. Has anyone asked a hotel directly if they will discount the rate 4 percent? (It's not much but every little bit helps). Or should I just make the booking thru Venere?

Are the rates the same at on the hotel's website? Sometimes Venere's rates are higher.

Does the hotel have a "best rate guarantee"?

You might try posting this on Europe board -- lots more people with more experience with venere.com there.

Nothing against venere, as I have never used a middle-man. I prefer to book directly with the hotel's front desk. I just feel more secure should something come up, rather than having used a travel agent back home or an agency over the internet. I have already had contact with a real person at the hotel one-to-one.

I thought I had posted on the Europe board. Guess I had a senior moment. Will repost there. Thanks.

I have never found a better deal on Venere than I was able to get directly from a hotel.

I have found good deals on booking.com and utell.com on rooms in Italy, France, Spain, etc.

I recently used venere for Paris and was happy with them. A plus for me was that they don't charge until after your stay.
