"Mad Russian"???
Has anyone had any experience with the "Mad Russian" in Brookline? We will be in Boston and are contemplating a visit with him for weight control. It sounds crazy to me, but does anyone know if his methods really work?

My mother-in-law had great success quitting smoking with the Mad Russian. My husband did not. I think it really depends on how much you want to change your behavior and how much you believe he can help you.

By the way if you will be in Boston on vacation, it's probably not the best time to consider weight control. Unless you wait until the last day when the airlines practically force you into losing weight.

My H stopped smoking 15 years ago thanks to a very strange hypnotist. He was just some fly by night guy drifting through our town. My H happened to hook up with him, and hasn't smoked a cigerette since. It can work if you work it.
Never heard of the Mad Russian. Is he famous???

I looked at the website. If you miss him (or her, there is an american woman working with that russian man) you can order an audio tape. I opened another website, and it says: I only do individual sessions, and don't confuse me with the mad russian who's doing group sessions.
So just a heads-up: make sure your session is with the russian, not his assistant or whoever; and that it's an individual session if you don't want to be a part of a group.

He sounds a bit like a hypnotist. I'm actually going to use one (a nurse who practices it) to help my little guy to keep his fingers out of his mouth. You have nothing to lose... but excess weight... and can possibly gain... better health.
Go for it!

Hi ! My husband and I drove to Boston from N.Y. to stop eating bad foods(me) and quit smoking(my husband). If you have the mindset, you can do it all by yourself. Granted, its only $60, but IT DID NOT WORK FOR US!!! He talks about himself,, does does fancy hand and blowing gestures and NOTHING HAPPENS..at least for us..He calls himself the "eraser" and he told me to think of the foods that I wanted to erase from eating...honestly, one of mine was candy and I have been a candy-a-holic every since. Do NOT waste your time or money! What an ego on that man!

You could probably get the same results from a local hypnotherapist (as they're often called now). I'd look for a psychologist or nurse who practices this. It sometimes takes several sessions, though.

Well, I disagree with most posters above. I went to the Russian on June 17, 1986 against my own judgement( I didn't want to quit!). Hubby took me because he was sick of my smoking. I quit that day and haven't smoked since. I also know a local physician who sends his patients there and he has a 96% success rate. Although it seems silly, and although some people don't have success, most do and it is well worth the money.
