LV with 3 kids...is there enough to do for a week at Easter time...without gambling?

Still looking for an alternative to a Florida vacation with 3 boys ages 8, 11 and 13. What's there for kids? Haven't been ourselves in about 5 years..they would love a pool with the slides and waterfalls..is it warm enough then? What about amusement parks? Would love them to see Blue Man Group...Any other kid friendly shows?

I do not think there is enough in LV for a week with kids (or without kids, but that is my personal taste). Even 5 years ago LV was still trying to cultivate a family-friendly atmosphere but has since reverted back to what LV does well - as an adult destination.

Plenty of people take kids and find things to do, but I think a week is pushing it unless you did side trips. Grand Canyon is still quite cold at that time of year. Same with Zion and Bryce, but people do go there at that time of year.

I do not know what other Easter options you have considered or what type of activity you are interested in opr from where you would be starting. All-inclusive on Mexican coast or Caribbean if you want to eat, slide and relax.

We haven't had much luck with finding all-inclusives that aren't over the top money wise..any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Honestly, I agree with the former poster gail, and would suggest maybe San Diego. There is plenty to do for kids there and I found it very affordable as a Priceline market for great lodging, as well.

No.

I am a fan of Vegas and go regularly and DO gamble. I would not go for a week even without kids. It is not a kid place.

Long weekends are about my maximum tolerance for Vegas & regardless of what they were trying to sell a few years ago, it is not kid-friendly. I, btw, take my children nearly everywhere. In addition, the pools will not likely be open as it is still quite cool at night. I would take a look at the Caribbean or possibly the SW (Az or NM), if they like hiking & such.

'Vegas is no place for kids - we go often and it never ceases to amaze me that parents seem to think the atmosphere is "kid friendly". For a time Vegas was attracting families, but they have since learned that families do not spend the kind of money that non-families spend in casinos, clubs, high end restaurants, shows, etc. so it is back to the old "Sin City" kind of place. While there may be pools at all the hotels and a few shows that you could take kids to overall it is not a place that I'd take kids to. How about San Diego ? Los Angeles ? San Francisco ? a cruise ?

We took our kids to LV over Easter break one year and loved it. It was pretty hot that year so a lot of time was just spent at the pool. My children were 14 and 15 at the time so a little older than yours. We stayed out at the Marriott and only went to the strip one day. We're hikers so we enjoyed Red Rocks and went out to Zion one day. Mine hated the strip but loved Mystere.

What about an all inclusive in Mexico?

It would probably run you the same if not cheaper than Vegas.

I wouldn't take three kids 8, 11, and 13 to Vegas.

I just got back from LV on Friday and I was really surprised by how many young children (under 10) were there. The kids and the parents looked miserable, I felt bad seeing them dragging their kids around the strip! Little kids at least are impressed by almost everything, but I can't see a 13-year-old enjoying anything in Vegas besides maybe the pool, and you can do that anywhere.

I honestly don't know what I would do w/ kids for a week there -- BF and I were getting a little bored by the end of our 4.5 day stay, and we're 25! And we do gamble! If I wasn't a gambler, I would not go to Vegas b/c as much as I think there is great shopping and shows, you can only shop so much and see so many pricey shows. Besides that, it's just casinos, casinos, casinos....I like to gamble but it gets old after a while.

IMO, if you want to spend all day at the pool, or go to amusement parks you can do that a bunch of other more kid-oriented places. But if you are totally set on going there, maybe only stay a long weekend - a week is way too long unless you plan to go out to other places and make that a stop over.

Quite honestly, a week is too long in Las Vegas, especially with kids. We have been going to Vegas for years, but we've never spent more than four nights and that is plenty. We are not gamblers. We enjoy the nice hotels, shopping and great restaurants. We did take our son with us a few times, but we certainly wouldn't be able to keep him busy for a week. I think you should reconsider your plans.

Just my two cents, of course.

It was just a passing fancy, and since most responses are so negative..it passed! It is really difficult to find a place that is kid-friendly, adult friendly for a week that doesn't require remortgaging the house. We are from Michigan, so it is feasible to drive to Florida for the week...the grandparents usually fly to meet up with the family.

You know what, Sumreknot, why don't you check out the Shangri-La Caribe hotel in Playa del Carmen (MX)? It's not technically an all-inclusive like a Sandals or Beaches would be. It's a nice little beachfront property with a variety of palapa style rooms and suites. Breakfast and dinner is included. Two swimming pools, an open air game room right next to the bar so you can have a margarita and still keep an eye on the kids. The town is interesting and there are "theme-y" attractions nearby with swimming and snorkeling involved.

3 days max in LV, and that includes a day trip to Hoover Dam. You can combine it with Grand Canyon and other parts of AZ (Pheonix/Tucson/Sedona).

Have you considered the Carolina Coast ? A bit closer than Fla. but the weather is often good enough that time of year to enjoy the beaches. Wilmington, Charleston, Savannah, Amelia Island (OK I left the Carolinas a bit)...

If you do choose LV, you could go here for a couple days: http://www.bonniesprings.com/
It's close to Red Rock Canyon. You can also go to Death Valley NP from Las Vegas. Another day trip is Valley of Fire.

How about Williamsburg? You can see Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. There is a huge outlet mall. There is also Busch Gardens. It's easy to fill a week there.

Check out Utah. You could go to Salt Lake City for a professional basketball game and then head to Moab for mountain biking and hiking and maybe a little rock climbing.

Moab is a great place for boys ages 8 to 13.

Why don't you look into the all inclusives in the Guanacaste Region of Costa Rica. Your boys will have a ball with the monkeys, zip lines, beach, & horseback riding.
Another thought is the Florida Keys.
