Luxury/Romantic lodging in Door County
Our 10 year anniversary is coming up and we would like to spend a long weekend possible up in Door County. Looking for something upscale and quiet. Have never been to Door County but have heard wonderful things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...Kim

check out www.doorcountyvacations.com -- all the listing are there. I personally prefer Sister Bay, Ephraim, Fish Creek or Gills Rock over Sturgeon Bay because they have more small town atmosphere. It is a pretty quiet time of year though...you may want to go the Kohler company owned American Club in Kohler, WI instead (Door County is a thumb like peninsula extending out into Lake Michigan, located about 4 hours north of Milwaukee, at the base of which is Green Bay).

Door County does not close up for the winter. However, if you do not enjoy winter sports, activities may be somewhat limited. I don't know where you are from, but if you are looking for snow, call first. Right now there is very little snow anywhere in Wisconsin.

Check out the Harbor Guest House in Fish Creek. Great old boat house, I think, converted into some very nice apartments. Right down the street from the White Gull Inn. We get the 2 bedroom on the 2nd floor for a few days each Fall.
Pricey but very nice. Door County does not close up for the Winter.

Live near Madison, and we are going up there in a couple of weeks, I looked at the Website Innonline.com and you can use it to search for just resorts. Right now there a lot of places in the Door (Fish Creek, Egg Harbor, Ephrim & Bailys Harbor) that have great prices on romantic Suites. I have found several places that have Whirlpool/fireplace/kitchenett suites for 75-100 per night. Their summer rates averabe 169-200 for the same rooms.

Just got back from our little trip to Door county and have to recommend Birchwood Lodge, very nice suites, got ours for $100 per night, huge walk in shower w/3 shower heads, full kitchen, fireplace & 2 person whirlpool in the bedroom.
A great experience, during peak times the rates are A LOT more though so if you can go now! Just keep in mind that this time of year many of the restraunts are only open on weekends so during the week your choice of food is limited.

That's exactly what I meant with my poor choice of words "everything closes in the winter" Everything does not close, but some restaurants do, or have limited hours. No boating, no fish boils, some museum's and galleries close, no trolley rides,no farmers market, just a lot of festivities not available unless it's ice fishing or skiing.
