Hello -
I am planning a surprise long weekend for my wife and I on our anniversary. Looking for suggestions on a 5-star place somewhere in the SE US that will be good for a 2 - 3 night retreat. Both of us are very into food/wine and want a spot with no kids but not so secluded that it's dead after 9 pm. Not overly concerned about cost as this is a special trip for us. Thanks in advance
Bill

Casa Marina-Key West
We got married in Key West and it is magnificent. We rented a house (fabulous) but there are several different hotels which offer a different emphasis. I would look at Tripadvisor for a better feel as to what is what.
If you did the southwest airline deal for $100 each way that ends on 10/29 and then come to Santa Barbara at the Bacara resort for $249 a night..oceanfront 5* on expedia..
3 nights with flight and they have a shuttle to and from for $1k for two with everything..
Best deal going..beats the hell out of Florida anyday!
I love the Sanctuary.

Many places on the SE coast--Kiawah, The Cloisters. But if you wanted "in town" ambience, how about Two Meeeting Street in Charleston, on the Battery. Or the Wentworth House, sort of around the corner. Dining within steps of your B&B.
Or, additionally, and in the center of town, an Orient Express property, Charleston Place.
You might want to consider Palm Beach of West Palm Beach. This is the most upscale, "luxurious" area in South Florida and it's not so overcrowded. There are some good deals going on now too. Either luxury hotels in Palm Beach or an upscale B & B in West Palm Beach walking distance to everything....don't know what age group you're in, but this area is really ideal for the 30 - 60 range....20 somethings are better off in Miami Beach.
Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island or The Lodge at Kiawah, SC
