Any suggestions for lunch in the St. Louis area? We are looking for a nice place to go after our son's graduation from Washington University. It dosn't have to be right by the school. We don't mind driving.

Well, you may want to drive over to the Hill area. THis is the Italian area of St Louis. THere are many excellent restaurants here. Charlie Gitto's is very good and rather pricey. Cunetto's is also a great bet. Not sure if these places are open for lunch, however., but you can check it out. The Hill is the area of 44 and/Kingshighway. There are many resturants in the area.

Wash U's graduation is May 19th, right?
Try places in Clayton.. Remy's Kitchen and Wine Bar, Cafe Napoli, Jimmy's on the Park. Or in the Central West End: Bar Italia (lovely patio), Savor,Terrene.
You're not going to find much on the Hill open for Lunch. Cunettos' however is open for Lunch, but I would never recomend eating there. Very ordinary Italian with a big, loyal following customer base for no reason that I can think of.

Make reservations. Everyone will be eating out that day. (It's the weekend of my 25th reunion from WashU, but my DD is graduating from High School that Sunday) It will be a busy weekend in St. Louis.

Well, we've enjoyed Cunettos twice coming from out of the city, and enjoyed both dining experiences. It is indeed popular.

I'd avoid anything near campus, which would include the Central West End. I'd try something like Clark St. Grill at the Westin downtown or something in the loft neighborhood.

My son is also graduating from Wash U. in 2 weeks. He is in absolute mourning. He loved attending school there. He loved the classes, the professors and especially his fellow students. The campus is beautiful and the surrounding areas wonderful. I also recommend going to any of the restaurants on the Loop, especially Blueberry Hill. The food is good and the atmosphere excellent.

Well, I was working on the assumption that the OP wanted a nice, celebratory lunch. B-hill is a great place, but likely one her son has been to many times. And I think the loop will be very busy. I'm not so sure about the West End being overy crowded.

I'll add Moxy's in the Central West End as another choice. Funky modern decor, great food.

I do love Chez Leon next door to Moxy's but they aren't open for lunch. Neither is another excellent choice the restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton in Clayton.

I would also recommend Cafe Napoli in Clayton. You can reserve the "wine room" if you have several people and want some privacy.

Cafe Eau in the Chase park Plaza (CWE) is a good choice as well. - also has private room.

Cardwell's - either location

You will need reservations at all of these.

I personally would avoid the Hill for this occassion.

Bar Italia is a great suggestion as well.

Another thought occured to me.

There are several great restaurnats in the Washingotn Loft area. It is kind of the hip new area in downtown STL.

We ate at Mosaic last night - it was fabulous.

you can also get a private room at Cardwell's in Clayton--very nice. Jimmy's cafe on the park, cafe balaban, and Remy's (I don't know if it is open on Sat for lunch) in Clayton would be good places to go.
