Mike,
We've been to the Old Lahaina Lu'au twice now (www.oldlahainaluau.com )and it's very nice. I've heard the Hyatt in Maui, next to the Marriott has a nice one. We've been several times to Hawaii and I think we're done with Lu'aus. Seemed a little touristy for me, but it was nice to go at least once. I'm sure you'll enjoy! I think going to one in Maui vs. HOnolulu would be better. Have fun!!!

I second the Old Lahaina Luau. We got married in Maui last May. I was a bit concerned as some people don't enjoy the traditional fare. The food is very well done, which is authentic Hawaiian food. I could not eat a lot of it, as I am allergic to shellfish. However, I loved the bite-size desserts. You don't want to miss this show! It was very fun so we had a lively table (8 people total). It drizzled a little bit, but that did not not stop the performance. The luaus on Oahu don't compare. Defintely do one on Maui.

another vote for Old Lahaina Luau. i have nothing to compare it to (never been to another luau) but my family of 10 people went to celebrate my folks 50th anniversary. it was absolutely lovely and really well put together. Setting, food, show, service all excellent. reserve early as it is a popular event.

The Feast at Lele is fantastic!! It's not buffet style, you have a private table and your meal is served. The food is really good and they keep the drinks coming all night. The show is traditional and touristy, very entertaining. Everyone there seemed to have a great time. I would highly recomend it if you're not going with kids. I hear the others are more fun for the little ones.

The Feast at Lele is run by the same people who run Old Lahaina Lu`au. It's also in Lahaina at 505 Front Street. www.feastatlele.com.

From limited experience but alot of reading it does seem these two are the very best offerings. I'd say the Old Lahaina Luau is better for a family or large group and the Feast for a couple, is that right?

Budman - If you're young and like raucous crowds of up to 1,000 people, then the Paradise Cove Luau might be the luau for you. Personally, it's not for me. One suggestion: if you decide to go there, spend the extra money and go for the Deluxe luau package. The seating is in front of the stage, and you don't have to wait on a very long line for the buffet because there's table service. You also get 6 drink tickets as opposed to 2 with the standard package.
The Old Lahaina Luau on Maui is much more authentic and MUCH better.

I last went to Smith's a number of years ago, and I enjoyed it except for the metal benchs we sat on to see the show. I have a bad back, so the lack of support for my back was not good. That being said, it was a lot more "local" that the big extravaganza on Oahu.
One more suggestion, if you're in Waikiki on a Monday night, you might try the Royal Hawaiian Hotel's luau. It's small and lovely, and the food is very good. http://www.royal-hawaiian.com/de_luau.htm
I just found this site which has discounted tickets (it's usually $89 and here it's $77). But I don't know anything about them.
