Next summer, drive or fly? Lville in rental car to Lake Placid or fly to Montreal and drive? Is it a pretty drive through Cleveland, along lake into Whiteface Mtn? Looks like 2 days but flight is all day too? thx...don't know the lake scenery or drive...is it worth it???

See if you can fly into Albany NY or Burlington VT. Each is about the same distance to Lake Placid as Montreal is. I also don't see why you think a flight is "all day". There may not be nonstop flights (I haven't checked) but there should options with short (2 hour or less) layovers
Flying to Montreal could be tricky because there may be restrictions and/or higher costs renting a car in Montreal and bringing it to the US. Also the border crossing from Montreal to NY State can be very backed up over the summer
Very helpful, esp. about border crossing/car rental. Louisville is difficult to fly from. Always have to go somewhere else first and it adds time.
