Lots of Vegas Help Needed - Please

Hi everyone-

I have been reading all of your great posts about Vegas and learned a lot, Thank you!

We are planning a trip to Vegas for my birthday in July (I read it's really hot, but oh well, can't change the day I was born

we will be taking my mom along so it will be the three of us. I definately want to stay at the Bellagio, and I know the retes are great at that time of year. What I need to know is:
What are the best rooms at the Bellagio for views?

What are the hot show tickets?

What is the best/safest helicopter tour to take to the Grand Canyon? We would want to do the afternoon so we can see the Vegas strip at night.

What are the best restaurants?

Money is not an issue, but we dont't want to go crazy either. We just want a nice fun celebration, with great food, great show seats, and a nice room with a view and not looking to penny pinch.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I will try and help on some of this

At the Bellagio, get a room with a view of the fountains. I prefer higher but that is up to you. You definately want to go to "O" which is at the Bellagio and is one of the hottest tickets. You will get some type of preference as a hotel guest. Another hot ticket is Danny Gans at the Mirage, almost next door. These should be booked ASAP.

The restaurant question is much harder, what do you like?

I do not have GC helicopter experience so can't be much help in that area either but have done some other helicopter touring. This is not for the weak of stomach (my wife). May or may not be a consideration for your group.

I take it from your post that you have not been to Vegas in recent years? Wandering the big hotels is a fun thing to do. Go in the Venetian, Paris, NYNY, Alladin (Desert Passage shopping area) and others that interest you. Make sure to hit the Forum shops at Ceasars.

Great family comedy is Rita Rudner at NYNY. We loved her show. Long as you are there (NYNY), stop in at the dueling piano bar and tell them it is your birthday.

Thank you so much for your info!

We have never been to Vegas, so your info is a great place for me to start. I will most likely book thru AxEx travel services. All I have to do is tell them what we want and they take care of all the rest, including hard to get tickets - the hard part is paying for it all Once the rooms and shows are booked I can figure out the rest from Fodors.

Thanks Again

Prime is a good steakhouse, and it's conveniently located at the Bellagio. In fact, all of the restaurants at the Bellagio get great reviews. I wasn't fond of Jasmine (chinese), but we got bad service. It's amazing how that can color an opinion...

The Aladdin and Paris across the street also have a variety of highly rated restaurants. Also, the buffets at all 3 hotels are great! Have a great birthday- mine is in July as well, so I sympathize with the heat thing. One note is that it's only hot outside. It can actually get a little chilly inside the casinos and restaurants. Have a great time!

If money is no object you want a "lakeview penthouse suite".
If you want to be modestly cost conscious just reserve a standard lakeview room. There are only two view categoreis: lakeview and everything else.
Suites come with private check in lounge, separate private elevators, free drinks and food in the private lounge, and rooms on the top floors of the hotel.

"O" has been the top show in town since it opened a few years ago. You need to book early.
Danny Gans has been cancelling shows left and right to protest his contract. He wants out.

AmEx travel will seldom get you the best deal. Las Vegas is unlike other cities in the USA in that most of the major casino-hotels don't newtork with travel agencies and other national hotel chains to allow travellers easy access to the best rates.
Please check Bellagio's website and call the hotel directly (both) before letting AmEx make your reservation.

Some of LV's best restaurants are at Bellagio: Olives (Italian, not too dressy), Picasso (top of the price and dress list), Prime (steaks), Aqua (seafood, dressy), Le Cirque (dressy, French), Circo (less dressy, mixed cuisine Italian/French/American).

There are numerous good restaurants in every category of cuisine on the Strip in LV, depending on what you want.

I was in Las Vegas last year for the 4th, and I didn't find the heat unbearable as long as you stayed in the shade. The humidity in Indianapolis drives me nuts in the summer and I much preferred the dry heat out there even if the temperature was higher.
