Losing the plot in Utah
Will be touring part of the States this September passing through Washington State, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and finally flying home from Salt Lake City.
Will likely have one or two days between Rawlins WY and Salt Lake City.
Don,t know anything about this part of the country.
Any ideas?

Check out the National Parks in the area. nps.gov is a start. Yellowstone (worlds first national park) is in WY and 6 hrs from SLC. There are hosts of others even north of SLC. Many dinosaur remains were discovered in that area.
SLC is ground zero for the Mormon church. You can spend 1/2 day or longer learning about the history at TEmple Square. [don't worry, they don't attack you trying to convert].
If you are into geneology, the worlds most complete library is in Salt Lake City, part of the church.
Park City would be a good stop.
With that short amount of time, I would not spend it in Salt Lake City (city is nice, but not a magnet compared to the surrounding area and to other cities).
Drive on the US routes, not Interstates if you have extra time.

Antelope Island, in the Great Salt Lake just to the northwest of SLC, is a fascinating place to visit. It's connected to the mainland via a long causeway and, once there, you can see bison, mule deer, and other wildlife including a variety of waterfowl. If you time your visit to include sunset on a clear day the light on the lake and across to the Wasatch Range is magical.
I agree there's very little to see in the city itself unless you want to to the Temple Square thing.

I take it you are only looking for ideas from Rawlins, WY to Salt Lake City.
From I-80 at Rock Springs I would head south on Hwy 191 to Flaming Gorge National Recreational Area and continue down to Vernal, Utah. This is a scenic drive. Spend the night in Vernal and then the next day you can go explore Dinosuar National Monument. Besides the dinosaur diggings this is a beautiful location. Then you can take Hwy 40 back to I-80.
Just an idea.

Hi Pat!
If you decide on the route Utahtea suggested & I second, you might also enjoy a stay in Park City. Summer activities in town include mountain biking, hiking, golf, horseback riding, fly fishing, windsurfing & water skiing, art galleries & great restaurants, art & music festivals, hot air ballooning, and last but not least, the Utah Olympic Park where the 2002 bobsled, luge, skeleton and ski jumping events were held.
The Utah Olympic Park is very interesting! In the summer the freestyle aerialists have summer training and land in a pool. They put on an organized show Saturday afternoons that always sells out by early morning. The ski jumpers also practice in the summer. It's definitely worth seeing. The Park is also home to the Alf Engen Ski History Museum. I haven't seen it myself yet, but I hear it's outstanding.
Park City is only a 1/2 hour drive to SLC Intl Airport.
Have a great trip!
