First-time to NYC Trip Report as promised!

Silver City is still on my bucket list. At least pay a visit.
This is the kind of place I'd like to spend at least 1 night.
The Inn on Broadway http://www.innonbroadwayweb.com/location.htm
The only place I have spent a night in this quarter of NM is Truth or Consequences. Have a great trip HTTY.
Thanks, Tom. I'm torn between Silver City and the area around White Sands National Monument, Cloudcroft, and Lincoln. We don't have time for both. I hope you make it to the Inn on Broadway one of these days--it looks like fun. HTTY
Did you decide on either of these towns?
I used to live in Deming and Lordsburg was the closest town to our ranch. It would be a stretch to describe either as interesting.
Sorry, but without too much comment, Deming is the absolute pits. Lordsburg is slightly better but, as already implied by tarquin, has nothing to offer other than a couple of motel rooms.
Silver City is your best and probably only option for someplace interesting. I'd choose it over White Sands.
Stay in either one only becuase it is time to stop driving and check into a hotel that night. Not intersting, not much to offer.
Thanks for resurrecting this post.
We ended up staying in Las Cruses which has become quite a pleasing place since we first visited there some years ago.
From Las Cruses we went to White Sands and Tombstone, and then on to Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos.

It sounds like you hit the high spots. I hope you went to Mesilla and also had a hamburger at the Owl Bar on your way north to ABQ. That would be NM for me.
Yes, we had dinner in Mesilla; no, we didn't have a hamburger at Owl Bar.
However, south of Albuquereque we had excellent Mexican food at the historic dining room of the Shaffer Hotel in Mountainaire, NM, and we were fascinated by the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument--especially the Quarai Ruins.

Mr. Pickle will be singing at Quarai in September. I hadn't been there before last year's concert, but it's a great location for choral music!
