Looking for vacation spot with beautiful mountains!
Hi! I want to take a vacation to the mountains this summer. Have been to Ouray Colorado many times and love it. Last summer I went to Stowe, Vermont area and it was beautiful. Where would you recommend this year? Also considering Canada. I love small towns surrounded by green mountains. Please give me some ideas. Thanks!!!

I suggest this: fly to Calgary get to Banff from there stay at the spa resort a couple of days then take the train across the canadian rockies to vancouver, once in vancouver experience the city a little and then head to whistler to finish it off.
You will probably be tired of mountains and awesome scenery once you finish that trip!

isn't grand teton in Wyoming...Jackson Hole? also a good place to see mountains.
for smaller but no less beautiful mountains there is Mt Washington (and the white mountains) in NH or Kathadin in Maine, you could combine the maine trip with a white water rafting, or allagash wilderness waterway trip, and then swing over to acadia NP for some more scenery and mountains.

I second the Banff/Jasper Alberta suggestion. I was there in mid summer once and it was PHENOMONAL! We stayed at a ski resort (of course there was no skiing at that time of year) on the top of a mountain above Banff called Sunshine Village Resort. I can't imagine any way to be more completely surrounded by the mountains. It is located right on the continental divide and there was a viewing platform where you can stand a gaze out over what seems like hundreds of miles of mountains. It is absolutely amazing.

I live in a small town in western North Carolina surrounded by the greenest mountains you can imagine in the summer. The Great Smokies are the oldest mountains in the world and are actually condsidered a semi-tropical rain forrest. For true small town atmosphere and boundless activities come to our mountains; set a spell, take your shoes off Cathy, you wont be dissapointed!

I, of course, have to agree with those who have suggested the mountains of Western North Carolina.
Cathy, what are you looking for besides a small town in the mountains? Do you want an artsy destination? A relaxing destination? A place with good shopping? Fun nightlife? A beach (you bet we've got one!)? A casino?
Lots of towns in WNC combine those elements, but some are known more for one than another. Can you clarify? I and the others who recommend WNC can certainly give you a top notch recomendation if you provide more info!

I'd recommend steering clear of Canada unless you're not an American. The Canadians have a very anti-US atitude these days and were very unfriendly to me on my recent trip to BC. I've traveled to Canada for business and pleasure for years and have never seen such a poor attitude amongst Canadians.
