My husband and I are planning a trip to Maine in September. We are interested in staying in upscale/luxury inns and B&Bs, preferably ones with excellent food. Unfortunately, it seems that a number of the most well-known ones (White Barn Inn, Yachtsman Lodge, Asticou Inn) are already booked. Does anyone have any other recommendations? Also any recommendations of good places to eat (both inexpensive and expensive)?
Thanks!

Where in Maine do you plan on going? You will find most of the better places in New England booked in September. Most places book atleast 6 months in advance because of the foliage season.
We would like to drive up the coast. We are going to be renting a car in Boston, and then we were planning on driving along the coast up to Acadia, and then down to Portland to spend a few days.
Thanks for your help!
I just made reservations at inn by the sea in Cape Elizabeth (outside of Portland). It is supposed to be an amazing place!
We've stayed at the Inn by the Sea (in the dead of winter - fabulous) and it is very special. If you're looking for a phenomenal meal in an exquisite setting and money is no object, you must try Arrows Restaurant in Ogunquit.
