Miguel's on Shelter Island or Coronado Island is my favorite Mexican Restaurant there.
If you have a car and are willing to drive half an hour or so (longer in rush hours) the Hacienda de Vega in Escondido would be my choice. Great food in a superb setting.
Miguel's in Coronado is great, there is a nice outdoor patio there, they have Warm Churros and Mexican Creme Brulee there for dessert, yummy! ***kim***
It's been awhile since I was there, but we've always liked Coyote Cafe in Old Town. Fresh made tortillas are great and the carnitas are really good.
Hacienda de Vega is one of our fave's.
It's in Escondido right off the 15 on the way to the Wild Animal Park.
I like the Seafood Food Truck called Mariscos German..they have a restaurant too..outstanding!
Las Cuatro Milpas is a SD instuition..under the Coronado bridge..been around for 60+ years and they are known for their carnitas and excellent flour tortillas.
Old Town Mex in Old Town is pretty good..so is El Agave.
Casa Guadalajara in Old Town has good Marg's and food.
Fidel's in Del Mar has one of the best Chile Rellenos on the planet..near the Del Mar Racetrack.
Miguel's is ok..it's owned by the Brigantine.
I prefer eating fish tacos at the Brig for the everyday happy hour that some of the best deals in town.
El Indio for casual Mex on the way to SD airport in Little Italy..decent.
Mama Testa's or Super Cocina in Hillcrest area for authentic great food.

Thanks for suggestions! Will not be able to travel to far during week so will probably go to Old Town. But I am staying with relatives Friday night in Rancho Bernardo and I am searching for the ultimate Chili Rellenos. How far to Del Mar from Rancho Bernardo? Thanks.
10-15 minutes max from RB..depends on traffic and if the track is running.
Fidel's has the best chile rellenos..they also have a delicious white chicken meat burrito.
Tony Jacal's next door is good but its those rellenos that keep me coming back.
Its on the Del Mar/Solana Beach border behind the Fish Market down the street a bit in a older Mexican neighborhood.
Fidel's Little Mexico
607 Valley Ave
Solana Beach, CA 92075
Old Town Mex
Guadalajara Grill
El Agave
Fred's Mex
While in Old Town..make sure you go to the Whaley House..across from Old Town Mex..haunted house funded by the State of California and recognized as one of the most haunted in the world!
Thanks again for your help ksucat.
