Looking for a relaxing spot to get our mind off things. Any suggestions?

My husband and I live in Michigan and will be visiting his Mom in Tennessee for a week. She has been diagnosed with cancer and we are all really stressed out. We'll be visiting back and forth during her chemo treatments.

I was supposed to take him away for his 40th surprise birthday, but when we found out about his Mom, we decided to visit with her for a week before her treatments start.

I would like to still take my husband away for a 4 or 5 day weekend so we can relax and get our mind on other things...since this has been very very stressful for us all. I want him to possibly be able to relax a little and see the beauty of Gods creation. I know a trip can't take cancer away, but I thought it may still be good for him.

Any thoughts on a quicky little getaway just to relax a little?

We are open to all ideas, including flying.

Thank you so much.

Tennessee is a great place to see nature. Especially September/October, after things have cooled off a little.

Stay away from Gatlinburg. It's too cheesy for words.

You don't say you want this tied into the Tennessee trip. If not, have you thought about Canada? Great exchange rate, and depending on where you go, you can really feel away from everyday life. Where were you planning to take him for his birthday before the sad news?

We like Fairfield Glade, half way between Knoxville and Nashville. It's on the Cumberland plateau, in the woods. They have a lodge and condos for rent. Very peacefull. Lakes for boating/fishing, lots of places to walk. Near Crossville TN.
