Looking for a place to stay with kids on Southern Maine coast.

Hi,

We will be traveling to Maine with our 2 kids - ages 1 and 5 this summer and I'm having a hard time finding just the right place to stay. I want something nice, not cheesy, that will accomodate children. In a perfect world it would be on or very close to a good beach, in a peaceful area, not too close to any "tourist traps". Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Maine beaches in summer are pretty touristy...but we like all of these spots..(not sure if all accept kids).

Take a look at the website for the Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth (just south of Portland) - very nice with great beach access - I'm pretty sure all rooms include a kitchen of some sort which is a great help when travelling with kids. Handy location but far enough from tourist route to be quite peaceful.

The Tides Inn at Goose Rocks Beach would be just what you are looking for.

Ooops...
Forgot to tell you it's in Kennebunkport, Maine (but not near downtown Dock Square).

One more you may want to look up outside Portland: the Black Point Inn at Prout's Neck in Scarborough. Has two beaches and a pool. A bit more resortish than my other rec of the The Tides Inn. But you can't find a better beach for kids than Goose Rocks. Also, the new units at the Tides have efficiencies.
