Looking for a good reasonably priced italian restaurant in Boston
Reserved at Taranta las weekend as part of the "Restaurant Week", I thought they would use that week to win new customers. We were very disappointed, a lousy fixed price menu.
I have not found that little italian restaurant that I would die to go back to. Do you know of any?
Thanks!

We had problems with service during rstaurant week. Italian restaurants I don't go to as I had to eat that everyday growing up because both parents were born in Italy.
But My favorites are no longer. There are some supposedly good ones now in the north end we plan to try some day once the big dig is over, or less a problem.

I haven't been for years (we live in Ohio) but my parents used to take us to a place they went when they were dating called Joe Tecci's. It was great. Wonderful food and gloriously tacky italian charm - and not the manufactured kind you find at Buca di Beppo. Last time we were there we met Joe himself and when he found we'd come all the way from Ohio he gave us a personalized tour of all the little rooms and told us stories of some of his favorite memorabelia!

Probably the most resonable and the best for the money spent is Maggiano's .. 4 Columbus Avenue in Boston .. it is in a lovely area of Boston and you can walk to the Public Gardens which is just lovely this time of year .. The food is good and plentiful .. however, not to die for but well worth the money .. A more upscale restaurant is .. Prezza in the North End .. it is absolutely wonderful .. Sage is excellent as well .. but you will pay a lot more .. however the food is at another level .. depending on budget and location .. The North End offers that Little Italy atmosphere and you can walk to Mike's Pastry for coffee and dessert if you want .. which lots and lots of people do .. Most of the restaurants in the North End are very good .. they have to be to stay in business .. check out www.phantomgourmet.com .. they have lots of reviews on Italian Restuarants in Boston and I usually agree w/them ... Enjoy .. Maybe you could try them all ! !

Massamino's is on Endicott St and has been consistently good for us - reasonably priced too. Terramia is another that I've been to 3x and have never been disappointed (though their antipasto was not as good as Massamino's). Also been to Joe Tecce's - tourist trap. Cantina Italiana - not bad but not my cup of tea and Francesca's - again not bad but maybe for others. Friends love Mama Maria's and Mauricio's. Sage is usually well reviewed but pricey. check out chowhound.com for lots more tips - though the crowd there seems to love Taranta.
