Looking for a car Tucson/San Diego, July 28
Hi,
We are from France.
We will be in Tucson in July.
On July 28th (or 27th), we will leave Tucson to go to San Diego,
we look for a car to share. We are 3 (2 adults and one child, 13).
It is a long way by Greyhound and there are no trains for these days.
Thank you.
Martin

The Southwest Chief #3 stops in Flagstaff on its way to Los Angeles every evening. If you can get from Tucson to Flagstaff (bus?) by 8PM you can ride the train to Los Angeles for about $200 for the 3 of you.
Are you planning on seeing the Grand Canyon?
I think they have a short commuter flight from Tucson to Flagstaff.

I would be very careful about accepting just any long ride.
Now - having said that - there are webpages for "hitching" rides - but again - proceed at your own risk.
Here is one example: http://www.erideshare.com/

The distance is about 410 miles or 660 km.
Almost all of the trip is on an interstate freeway, the U.S. equivalent of the toll roads in France, but without the tolls and without the absolute smoothness of a French toll road.
It should be a trip to do in one day, taking about 8 hours, including a stop or two. Remember that U.S. speed limits are lower than France.
There are numerous auto rental places in both locations, so it's easy to pick up a car and drop it off. It's always more expensive to pick up / drop off a car at an airport.
The most popular car rental company is with Hertz. Cost for a full size car is around $100 U.S., plus the cost of petrol.
A gallon of petrol is approximately $4.00 US.

It is an easy six hour drive from Tucson to San Diego on Interstate highways, no tolls, 1-10 North to I-8 West.
You will pay a drop off fee for returning the car to a different location. Gas in AZ is in around $3.70 per gallon. Fill up on gas in Yuma,AZ before driving into California where it is much more expensive.

note: Often when we Americans answer about renting a car it is from the perspective of what we have to pay. When responding to visitors from Europe/UK/Oz/NZ -- it is important to understand they can rent all inclusive and usually w/ no drop off fees for REALLY reasonable rates.
(Just as Americans renting over in Europe can get much better rates than locals could)
