Long weekend in D.C. With family
Hi
Going to D.C. With family and my boys are 9&12. Will be there in mid September.
Any suggestions for must do activities given a somewhat compressed trip. Only have two days for activities.
Many thanks

Well if you don;t have reservations it's too late for the White House.
Definitely do Air & Space Museum and all of the Monuments on the Mall as well as visit the Capitol (get info from your congressperson's office). After that review some options with the kids so they get to make some choices.
(You could spend the whole time at the Smithsonian but expect 2 boys might have some other ideas.)

DC has lots of free things to do such as the one's mentioned above. If you want to try a few different activities that cost check out the exhibit at the nat Geographic Museum on Indiana Jones

Also not free, but very fun for kids is the Spy Museum "Experiences.

Goldstar often has half price tickets to both the activities mentioned.

Depending on budget, you might want to check out bike or segway tours of the monuments and mall.

The Museum of the American Indian is pretty fun. Try to seek out some food trucks (not the hot dog carts- actual food trucks). On Fridays, they gather at Farragut Square for lunch near the metro stop.

I believe there are food trucks by Farragut Square every weekday at lunchtime, not just Fridays.
If you go to the National Museum of the American Indian, try it's cafeteria, Mitsitam, which features foods made of ingredients native to the Americas.
