I'm flying into Newark on Monday and have a seven hour layover- 1:05pm to 8:50pm
Someone earlier sugested that I can take a train into Manhattan for about $14, but I cna't find the thread.
Can anyone give me the specifics? Where is the train? What is it called? How long does it take, etc? I'd love to meet someone for a late lunch, but don't want to miss my flight!
Thanks, Lucy

Trip Ideas
Take the monorail to the NJTransit station. There you buy a ticket for New York-Penn Station, not to be confused with Newark-Penn Station, which is the first stop. It's either 2 or 3 stops (depending if the train you get on stops at Secaucus), and is about 20 minutes.
From Penn Station, you can take a subway to just about anywhere in Manhattan, including museums or midtown shopping. Check the MTA website for maps.
www.mta.info
The train/monorail is called Airtrain.
From your gate, follow signs to Airtrain (quick walk in terminal - should be right by security) and take the Airtrain to the NJ Transit Newark Airport station (free ride between airport and station).
At the NJ Transit Newark Airport station, purchase a ticket into New York Penn Station. Adult tickets are $14 one-way and the ride takes about 20-30 min.
The train schedule is at www.njtransit.com - click on train schedules/station to station/pick departing line 'northeast corridor' and departing station 'newark airport', arriving line 'northeast corridor' and arriving station 'new york penn station' for a 'weekday'.
Have a nice visit!
Thanks so much!
FYI, when you get to the train station at the airport there are two options - NJ Transit or Amtrak. Both serve the same route, NJ transit is cheaper. Same thing applies on the return from Penn Station. You can purchase tickets from a machine using a credit card.
Oh, yes, and don't be confused - the first stop from the airport is Newark Penn Station, but you want to stay on board until New York Penn Station.
There's also a bus into Manhattan for about the same price. It's Newark Liberty Airport bus and goes to Port Authority bus terminal (42 st & 8th ave.) Here's the website with all the transport options

Have you figured out what to do with your luggage?
I've already commented on lcuy's other thread, but since there's some interest here, let me add one thing:
On the way back, one can save money on the train by buying a ticket to North Elizabeth or Elizabeth ($5), and then get off at Newark International Airport. Pay another $5 to ride the SkyTrain, for $10 total. Save $4.
NJTransit is very frequent. No reason for taking AMTRAK at all.
My luggage will be checked thru from Honolulu all the way to New Delhi, so thats not a problem luckily!
And I like the idea of saving $4.. Hate to waste!
