There's a Hilton at the airport -- walk from the hotel to any of the terminals. Also a Hyatt on the airport property, but you'd need to take a shuttle from the hotel. Less expensive airport-area hotels that are within a mile or two include the Courtyard, Hampton Inn, and Four Points by Sheraton. The downside of airport area hotels is that you'd need to take a shuttle to public transportation, then the MBTA (blue line) to Boston.

If you stayed in the city, that would obviously be much more fun and more convenient, but the trade-off is expense. Still, for one night, it might be an excellent way to splurge. If you're staying downtown, it is an easy cab ride to the airport (figure 15 minutes from the Waterfront area or 20-25 minutes from Back Bay/Copley).

The Hilton and Hyatt are commonly available on Priceline.

There is also an Embassy Suites at the airport which is available IF you prepay (NO CHANGES or CANCELLATIONS) with wine and cheese in the afternoon and a nice cooked breakfast in the morning for about the same price as you would pay at the Hyatt and Hilton, once you add in tax and breakfast.

The view from the Hyatt is astonishing, if you are lucky enough to get a waterside room, and you can take a water taxi into the city from next door. The view at the Hilton and Embassy Suites is of parking lots.

I forgot to add that we will be in a large van. ( all 8 of us, I know! We will turn in the van at the airport the next morning. Would staying at Chelsea or Revere be too inconvenient? Just thinking that being away from the airport will be cheaper.

If you stay near or at the airport you have to take a hotel shuttle to the nearest T stop. Or if you're far outside the city, you'll have to drive to a T lot and take the subway in. Check locations when you look at hotels. Many have "Boston" in their name but they are not very close to the city. I like Ackislander's idea of staying at the Hyatt or the Hilton. Then you can turn the car in the day of arrival and not have to do that the morning you leave. I don't think you can bid for more than two rooms on Priceline so some of the others will have to bid also.

Thanks guys. We will need four rooms. Don't think we want to take a chance on bidding on rooms. Wouldn't want to end up with some of our group staying at another hotel. Also, the Hyatt sounds nice, but don't want to pay $275-340 for the night. Oh well, thanks anyway. I guess Revere or Chelsea wouldn't be advisable then?

What date are you going to be here. I ask because www.lastminutetravel.com is a good resource for Boston. The hotels aren't named but can usually be id'd from the photos.

Not sure what the prices are, but consider checking out the Westin Waterfront or the Renaissance hotel on the Waterfront district. You can return your van the day before, then check in at the hotel. Both hotels are linked to the city as well as the airport via the SilverLine (part of our transit system). It's about a 10-15 min ride into the city and also out to the airport from either hotel.

How early in the a.m. is your flight out? Beverly Garden Suites, (about 20 min north of Revere in Beverly) are nice...but unless it is a Sat or Sun there is a lot of commuter traffic from that area in the morning.

Will be staying Oct. 4th. Will check out last minute travel. Flight is 9am I believe. Thanks for the replies.

There are motels in Revere that let you park for free and have free shuttles to the airport that will get you there for early flights.

But you can't easily go to Boston from a motel in Revere, and no offense, it is not a place I would want to spend more than an overnight in. But if they see Boston first, then that's all they need. Can they find a motel that will shuttle them to Kelley's Roast Beef?

I checked www.lastminutetravel.com for Oct. 4. Four rooms, two in each room. The 4* Boston Logan Airport hotel for $217 is the Hyatt. It says that rooms are available, and to call for a better rate. I have read where people have gotten better rates by calling.
