Lodging near Grand Teton NP

Having taken the advice on many of the threads here, we are booked for 3 nights in Yellowstone NP in July, however we will be coming from the South (SLC)and want to stay one night in Jackson and one in or very close to Grand Teton NP. We are travelling with our 14 yr. old son, would like to spend under $90. I was thinking about Colter Bay Cabins, but then read that the walls are so thin you might as well be in a tent. Is it not worth considering?? Any input on dining, float trips, etc. also appreciated. I've got a slew of books from the library and just getting started, but I do want to make reserv. for lodging now. Thanks so much.

Stayed at Colter Bay cabin with no problem. It was my wife's favorite room in our 2 month trip thru the west last year.

It was a regular cabin, not the tent cabins that I believe they have also

Stayed in Coulter Bay cabins (more like motel unit design) last June. We could hear the neighbors talking once (just rumble, not the actual conversation) and we could hear their shower once. We thought the location, quality, and cleanliness were a great deal. I think I posted info when I returned last summer.

I just found & booked ELK COUNTRY INN for $74.00 economy room in Jackson.

Haven't been there yet to give comments on how it was - but I had the same problem finding anything under $100. This was the cheapest I could find. The website for Elk also has two other linked lodges for similar price range.

Also just booked whitewater raft ride with Mad River Rafting $31.00 per person.

Barker-Ewing river rafting also sounds good but was more expensive.

You can find all of the above with a search engine.

Jackson IS very close (just outside of) Grand Teton NP. I believe there are no other towns between it and the park entry.

Happy planning!

I stayed in the Colter Bay cabins once. Never heard our neighbors. Much better than a tent. It was cold though even in the summer. In the morning you could see the sun coming through the cracks between the logs.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to call Colter Bay and see if we can get in the cabins. Cold, you say, we're coming from SW FL should be down right freezing to us, esp. coming from FL July temps. Ahhh... it'll be great. I'll also check out the Elk Lodge and I think we really should do the water trip with our son. Looking forward to hearing how everyone is pulling their summer vacation plans together. Let me know if you get more good info and I'll do the same.

Jaye,
Colter Bay is great! Make sure you check out the Ranger programs, and the restaurant (I forget the name...cafeteria style) is a real treat.
If they serve meatloaf when you're there, you've got to get the recipe and post it here!
