Lobster in Maine (Bar Harbor)
Hi - another post and such a touristy question - but could anyone recommend a great lobster dinner in Bar Harbor? I really love Maine but don't get there enough and haven't been up that far. Anyway, thanks so much!

We were in Bar Harbor recently and ate at Poor Boy's Gourmet (www.poorboysgourmet.com). The food was very good and the prices reasonable. We both had lobster, steamed and sauted. Service was excellent. We found that, in Bar Harbor, food prices decrease as you move away from the pier.

A bare bones but delicious, less expensive alternative to a restaurant is one of the "lobster pounds" found along the road. There are several on Rt 3 on your way in to Bar Harbor, especially right at the Trenton bridge. They look like shacks, but are very clean. You choose your lobster, they steam them for you while you wait. Then you can either eat it there at a picnic table or take it home. They also sell sides and a few other carry out seafood dishes.

This is from a Bostonian.... The BEST, BEST lobster we ever had was in Bar Harbor.. looking down at the water from one of the streets...go to the left over the bridge and there is a lobster shack where you pick out the size lobster you want (we picked out two two pounders), hard or soft shell, steamers and corn...they put everything into a large net and when ready call your number.. There is a patio upstairs in the next building and we set up "shop" there and pigged out..ending with a huge iced coffee... I thought we died and went to heaven.. The colder the water, the sweeter the lobster.. The price for the two of us was approximately $50.00... a steal.. the restaurant owners in the Boston area were paying a high price for the lobsters... did we finish it all... You get your "bippy" we did.. I even have pictures to prove it.. before and afterwards.. We would have gone into any other place, but we had our heart set on steamers..

Thank you thank you thank you all so much for these wonderful suggestions - I checked them all out on the web and I'm drooling already. I also realize that while I had planned to go to some stuffy restaurant maybe for a great lobster dinner - by doing that I'd miss out on a better meal and experience so you can be sure I'll be enjoying lobster on a deck - probably a picnic table (so Maine, and I can't wait). GREAT recommendations - I really appreciate it!
