Little Palm Island
Has anyone stayed at LPI recently? Any thoughts you'd like to share? We are a couple who just wants to get away from life for a while and just relax, so we know this would be a great place. Can you recommend a particlular bungalow away from the main area and pool? Are mosquitoes a problem? What about this low tide experience? Some posters describe that it is not at all attractive when the tide goes out, and that it gets rather swampy and stinky. True? Any other ideas would be helpful. Thanks!!!!

I can't say because I've never been, but I'm hoping to go in May. The reviews are so confusing! I was about to post this same question but you beat me to it. I hope we can get some insight because it looks fabulous, but it's so expensive, so it has to be worth it. Good luck.

when are you planning to go. Mosquitos are only a problem during the rainy season and I do not remember them being a problem when I stayed there, once in May and the other in November. The resort is on the bay side of the keys not the Florida Straights side. I do not remember it seeming swampy or smelly but some people really belong in a resort like South Beach with a pool and an artificial atmosphere.
I'll give you a little anecdote from last fall between hurricanes. I was visiting a friend staying at the Ritz Carlton in Naples. We had a perfect day for laying on the beach, the sky was clear, the water warm. A couple obviously on a honey moon or prequel came down to the beach. She took one look at the shells and then had the great misfortune to see a fish in the water and yelled at her husband, she wanted the ocean, not the gulf, where there were no yucky fish. The crowd at the resort would have taken up a collection to send her over to her fish free South Beach. I imagine this creature had never ventured far from her cabana to actually see the water there. Little Palm would be hell on earth to her, no retail!
Little Palm is like a very luxurious Caribbean island resort. No Vegas here. No phones, no tv, emphasis on relaxation and being together. I'd charter a boat to bone fish. You can just pole through the lovely water. If you do catch something, like a pompano, they will cook it for you at the resort.
Have you contacted the resort directly? I'd want to know what to expect in terms of hurricane mitigation from last season. Did the resort lose a lot of its jungle? That is part of the attraction here. A direct phone call is required. I don't know anyone who has been lately. LMF

Thanks all. We are planning to go in Feb or March. I did call there to ask about hurricane damage and they were closed a bit in the fall afterwards to do some MINOR repairs, but I am not sure to what extent the foliage was destroyed. I am not sure they would tell me if it was all obliterated or not (lest we decide not to come), so that's why I thought I'd post to see if anyone had any input. Funny story about Naples. Well, if I were that woman's husband, I would....(well....!!) Well, believe it or not, I know people who don't even like the sand! (Too grainy, gets everywhere, weird feeling between the toes, etc.!!)Anyway, We are not looking for a South Beach atmosphere at all, and as LPI seems far from it, I am sure it is just what we are looking for. Until we actually get there, any more input is always welcome!!

We stayed at LPI had a wonderful time. We floated all afternoon on floats during low tide , no smell or buggs that we noticed. Only issue we had is there is no late night menu / dining. After a day in the sun with drinks and a hot tub, we slept thru dinner and there was no other food alternative. They offered us some crackers but that was it. Will not go back for that reason.
