My wife and I are travelling from New Hampshire to New Jersey in a few days, and are interested in seeing White flower Farm in Litchfield CT. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel/motel/B&B in the area? What else is there to do or see in this area? We especially enjoy hiking, and discovering interesting, inexpensive restaurants.

I would suggest staying at the Hopkins Inn on Lake Warmarag (I think that I spelled that totally wrong) it is in New Preston. We live in CT and stayed there a few weeks ago for a night. It is not fancy but the view is great. Our room was $82/night (lake view room with king size bed) They have wonderful food there but pricey for dinner( lunch is wonderful on the terrace). Don't go to the winery. It is not owned by them and the wine is terrible. A place that looked kind of interesting that could be what you are looking for is right down the road. It is called Doc's trattoria. I have not eaten there but have been intrigued by it. There is also a drive in (burger and seafood place, not movies) on the road from Litchfield to New Preston that also looks good, goose something. Those places always have good food. In Litchfield on the main strip is a good italian place that is reasonable. Don't let the diner look put you off. It almost did us but we are so glad that we went in. It is called DiFranco's. Best gnocci with the seafood sauce and artichokes french. Let me know if you need anything else.
The Litchfield area is supposed to be beautiful, and I've read about it in a few books about weekend trips close to NYC (where I live.) I found a B&B in the area at Yankee Magazine's website, http://www.newengland.com . They have a great B&B finder online, with pictures of the places. If you look around online, especially on newengland.com and Connecticut's official tourism site, you'll find a lot of info about hiking, etc. Have a great time!

I believe it is called Lake Waramaug. Never stayed in a B&B there but did tent-camp and the whole area is very pretty.
