We like the Hopkins Inn. The restaurant is great and the town of new preston is cute. Doc's has great food if you want to not eat at the inn. The beach area at the lake is very family oriented with paddle boats and canoes to rent. It is a very quiet area but litchfield is about 20 minutes away which is a wonderful town with more going on.
I love the Inn at Kent Falls (innatkentfalls.com)-it's in Kent, which I believe is about 20 minutes from Litchfield. It's gorgeously decorated-kind of the anti-B&B-not a Victorian flourish in sight! This guy from Florida restored an old Colonial into a beautiful B & B-in a modern yet classic way. Wood floors, Frette sheets, cozy fireplaces....the website will give you a good idea of the place.
