Limo, Shuttle Van or car rental - LA to Capistrano Beach

Hi,

We are flying to LA in Feb and heading to Capistrano Beach. This is a Saturday. Does anyone know of a reliable limo/van service that we could use for transport and then do car rental at our destination?

OR - can you reassure me that driving out of LA and back the following Saturday will not be too bad for the average tourist! We would just as soon rent the car there but don't want to be snagged in awful traffic or have trouble finding out way in and out. Any advice?

Thanks, Sue

I suggest getting a rental car at LAX. If you arrive early in the day, the freeway traffic to Capistrano Beach will not be bad. But it gets heavy in the afternoon.

Here are some tips: Two or more people in a car can take the carpool lane (aka "diamond lane") on the 405 San Diego freeway and bypass much of the traffic. Also, if traffic is heavy, take the 73 toll road. It costs a couple of bucks, but bypasses the traffic from just after Huntington Beach until Laguna Nigel, which is just before Capistrano Beach. (We took this last month going to San Diego.)

If you get caught in traffic, keep a good mental attitude and remember you are on vacation. Be thankful you are one one of those who has to make that drive on weekdays when the traffic is worse.

Also, if you return to LAX driving a rental car and traffic is light, your can use the extra time to visit Hermosa Beach or Manhattan Beach, which are just minutes away from the airport, and can take Sepulveda Blvd. north to the rental car agency.

Enjoy.

I meant to say, "Be thankful you are NOT one of those who has to make that drive on weekdays when the traffic is worse."

I agree to rent at LAX. If you opt for a limo, shuttle, etc. and traffic is congested, it will STILL be congested for the limo or shuttle driver! South of the airport, usually at the 105 freeway, traffic will substantially taper off. On a Saturday, it isn't bad anyway south of the airport. It's only if you're heading north on the 405 from the airport to the valley where the "405" has been dubbed the "4 or 5 -- hours" that you get the bottle neck.

Since traffic along this route goes from fast to slow without warning, although it's not an intense drive you do have to keep your eyes on the road, and do NOT use a cell phone, eat, drink, shave, put on make-up, or any other stupid driver trick that diverts your attention from the task at hand. Most drivers think they can safely multi-task, but based upon the number of collisions from a car unintentionally meandering into another occupied lane, those drivers are delusional as to their capabilities.

Check rental car prices on Orbitz and BiddingforTravel and then bid on Priceline. That will be your cheapest way to get around.

I live not too far from Capo Beach and have to fly out of LAX alot for Int'l trips. The lowest limo is $90 one way tip included. The last trip home limo failed to show and I had to take one of those vans and it was roughly the same price to take it alone (no other stops) and somewhat cheaper if you want to share and wait while they make the stops for everyone else on the way.

RENT the car -- you will want it and its the cheapest alternative plus what everyone else told you about fwys is true. On Sat you will prob go speed limit with little problem. BEST time LAX to Capo is about 1 hour. Note the comments about idiot drivers and don't get the sterotype of LA fwys in your head that they crawl all the time--- when they are moving the flow of traffic can easily be about 80 with everyone still tailgateing so as the other poster said -- be ALERT and drive smart. Lots of idiots. Just get in the car pool lane and go with the flow.
